Movie is fine, we enjoy it.
Seller did not have paypal and it was a rather cumbersome process to get it paid for, then shipped. Took too long.

I rented it, really like it so I bought it (at a great price!). My former step-dad is east indian so I can relate to alot of the indian culture in the movie. Plus it has the Aloe Gobi recipe at the end and I was able to "master" the cooking teachings that he gave me (tastes sooo much better).

  It's a Lean-N-Mean game called Football!!!
Review created: 12/16/03
by: carl_lazarevic -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
characters, story, fun, acting, lack of Beckham.

Cons:
lack of football, one scene of Beckham is to much.

Bend It Like Beckham tells a simple tale of a young Indian girl named Jess who enjoys playing football with the guys. Sadly her parents are not to keen on the idea of her playing football, but grudgingly allow her to continue playing in the park until a young white girl sees her and asks her to join the local girls team. They refuse, but following her dreams she pretends to have a job at HMV, signs up with the girls team and takes up training. While this happens she finds herself developing an attraction to the local coach, who, being a white man, would be totally rejected by her parents. It..

BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM: "You don't even want to learn how to cook dhal!"

Pros:
has a lot of heart and charm, great debut performances by the leads

Cons:
Not much

WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL WITH DAVID BECKHAM?! Being an avid supporter of Beckham's former rival team (Arsenal), it makes me wonder even more as to why he is so special. Sure, he can bend a ball like crazy. But there are many footballers who can do that. Sure, he can create brilliant crosses. But other footballers can do that as well. He may look attractive to many girls. But other footballers do as well. So, I was immediately curious as to why the film Bend it Like Beckham was so well-revered. I was guessing this film would praise Beckham as if he were a God. I was glad the film proved my...

Bend it Like Beckham: a charming little tale of culture, family and football
Review created: 03/08/04
by: telynor-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Movies

Pros:
A rather sensitive but gutsy story about teenage rebellion.

Cons:
You think you may have seen this sort of film before.

World, meet Jess (Parminder Nagra) -- short for Jesminder -- a young teen girl in the suburbs of London. In her traditional Sikh family, she's a bit of a rebel, thinking of football (soccer for us Yanks), and one day making it big. Enough so that she daydreams of playing alongside champion David Beckham. Even to the point where she has conversations with the player's photo over her bed at night. Alas, Jess's family isn't quite so bending. Her long-suffering father, Mr. Bhamra (Anuper Kher) is an airline pilot, more or less trying to keep peace in the home by yielding to his wife's (Shaheen...

AN OLD FASHIONED SPORTS STORY WITH NEW CHARACTERS
Review created: 08/03/03

Pros:
Excellent acting, directing and action scenes, plus believable story

Cons:
A little predictable

One of the downsides of living in the middle of nowhere (Odessa, Texas is 300 miles from any large city) is that our movie theatres don t always screen movies that are a little out of the ordinary . This category includes almost every foreign film and almost every art film. To give you an example of how backwards some of our local video people are, I once asked a clerk where the foreign films were in the video store and received the following question in reply: Farm films? I don t think we have any of those. I repeated the word foreign and her reply this time was: You mean where they speak...

  Always Go For Your Dreams!
Review created: 11/03/05
by: mcmaster -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
A fun movie for the whole family. Good acting, culture and a good story.

Cons:
Nothing that I noticed.

Angry women: You take your lesbian feet out of my shoes! Elderly Women [bystander]: I thought she was a Pisces? Directed By Gurinder Chadha Parminder Nagra as Jess Bhamra Keira Knightley as Jules Paxton Jonathan Rhys-Meyers as Coach Joe Bend It Like Beckham 2002 This film is set in present day London, England. Jes is a young Indian girl with a deep love for the game of Soccer. This seems simple enough but it s not at all. Her family has very strong religious and cultural traditions which are clearly against ladies playing sports not to mention having their bare legs showing in the public!...
