I have a golf business and have bought, sold, and played almost everything.
Forged Hogan is the best. They feel SO much softer and sweeter than Callaway (brick on a stick), Ping (straight but short), TaylorMade (nice clubs, but not spectacular), Cleveland (hit them on the sweet spot or suffer), Nike (Pro-forged has so-so feel), McGregor (just a bit too heavy), and even the vaunted Mizuno forged irons (super low launch angle, and not even close to Hogan for feel).
They say the new Hogan FTX is not quite as good, but to me they are identical to the Plus. Guess I am not sensitive enough to feel the difference.
The Apex Plus is a muscle back, rather than a blade, so you do get some foregiveness on mis-hits, but not a lot. The swing weight feels very light, and encourages a higher swing speed. Totally workable for fades, draws, knock-downs, or high soft ones.
Distance is very good, especially considering that they did not "cheat" and use lower lofts to get it (the E, or pitching wedge, is 46 degrees... perfect for a four wedge set of 46-50-54-58.
One drawback; the grips suck. Not that great to start with and they wear fast.
I would never buy a Hogan driver, wedge, or putter, but the irons are truly great. Same goes for the hybrids. Just the sweetest longest most workable clubs you can find.
