  Battlestar Galactica - Season 2.5 (2006, DVD)

In the second half of Battlestar Galactica's second season, you will enjoy the resolution to the arrival of the Pegasus in the climax of "Resurrection Ship". The show also brings the resistance movement on Caprica into better focus, and makes the characters there more important to the overall story. One aspect of season two that I am not completely sold on at this point is the expansion of the Cylon's internal structure, as expressed in the Cylon war-hero story. I think I enjoyed the mystery and confusion behind their true motives. It would be a shame for the arch-villains to become predictable and stale.

For those already addicted to this show, 2.5 will satisfy you to a point, but I believe the finale will only be justified by where the show goes in season 3. Right now I am a little skeptical, and will even go so far as saying it approaches the hokey sci-fi clichés (granted, clichés that we all like to watch) that the show has so assiduously avoided so far. One thing the final episode will do is set up a whole new string of story possibilities in the coming season/seasons; it is such a crazy ender that I don't see how they can possibly resolve the issues in the first episode or even entire season 3. Maybe that's what the whole idea ultimately is about: creating more story possibilities. The final cliffhanger is not quite as emotional as the assassination at the end of season 1, but it will leave you wanting more.

If you happen to be a new to this sci-fi phenomenon, I highly recommend you first watch season 1. This series is not the typical sci-fi that is `plug and play' at any point in the series (ala most Trek series). If you jump in midstream, you'll probably find yourself asking "what the ____?" and "why do I care about this character?". This quality is one of the shows strong points, conflicts are not resolved every 50 minutes and tidily packaged so that the next episode will be back at square one. Like real life the problems and troubles often follow the characters through their journey. And I will add this - Battlestar Galactica manages to bridge the gap between `sci-fi' people and people who typically don't watch sci-fi. I can say this with nearly complete certainty. I am a sci-fi person in the military, and I have enjoyed spreading this show around- despite many initial and long term refusals. Right now the tide has turned and most of my fellow officers and many men in the battalion are hooked on the show. So give it a shot, you won't be disappointed.

  The Conclusion of Season 2
Review created: 11/02/07

Season 2.5 belongs in any BSG fan's collection - although you should buy the two-pack with the 2.0 set if you can.

This new Battlestar Galactica 2.5 DVD boxset release is full of special features and bonus material to attract all viewers. The split season format is great. It airs as half seasons on Sci-Fi and they release it to match its airing schedule and system. There are so many special features, you could spend more time watching them then the actual episodes.

One of the greatest bonuses to the set is the much anticipated and greatly debated extended version of the episode `Pegasus' this special version is over an hour and a half long it was not aired in this format due to time constraints. It views like a feature movie. It has amazing special effects and amazing cinematography.

Other features include deleted scenes, which are broken down by episodes, include the producer's podcasts that aired on the Sci-Fi channel's website during the original airings, and the producer's video Logs and much much more. The deletes scenes are broken down episode by episode.

The bonus material, if not ignored, will help viewers better understand the choices made in preparing the episodes and the season for release.

This half of season 2 has many unique twits and turns in the plots and lives of the characters. We are also introduced to new human cylon models. As to the content itself, in this half of season 2 the central character is Sharon, with her actions developed alongside those of (spoiler alert!) those of a few different Cylon version of her. Byond Sharon's development on Batlestar Galactica and Battlestar Pegasus, which is presented as strongly intertwined with the fate of the whole human race, a great deal of the season deals with relationships - Professional and otherwise - and especially friendships. Striking interactions occur between President Roslyn and Commander Adama; in the complicated relationship between Starbuck and Apollo; with Sharon and, well just about everybody.

In the broader scheme of things, by this point in the series the complexities of guiding a free population while trying to avoid the Cylon army has taken it's toll on both military and civilian leaders of this rag-tag group of humans trying to find a new home on a lost planet called Earth.

The excellent character development in this half of the season can be attributed to very strong scriptwriting. The cliffhanger ending leaves you mouth watering and you desperately awaiting season 3 - which hopefully, after snagging this DVD set, you can finally get caught up in watching. The Sci-Fi channel has to date released 4 of 10 web episodes that have story line development between season's 2 and 3. Season 3 begins airing in the US and Canada on October 7th for the first time the episodes will air in both countries at the same time. We here in Canada will not have to wait days, weeks or months for the US show to finally come to Canada.

BSG is often called the best Sci-fi on television and Newsweek has gone so far as to call it the best drama on TV. With such high praise and the series consistently receiving great reviews - not to mention the special features and additions offered in the 2.5 DVD - how could this DVD box set not be worth every penny?

  Awesome season!!
Review created: 06/12/08

I purchased Season 2.5 of BSG because I am currently working my way through all the seasons. I prefer to buy the seasons of shows that I really like because I hate commercials and I don't care to wait several days to see why Sharon shot Commander Adama. Who wants to wait?

I have really enjoyed all of the seasons of BSG so far and will continue to collect them. BattleStar Galactica is one of the best seasons going today.

  Battlestar Galactica - Season 2.5 (2006, DVD)

This is a wonderful series. It is action packed and full of great special effects. But more importantly, it has great, complex characters who struggle with their own wants and needs versus what is the right thing to do. The acting is wonderful.

Very exciting show with amazing actors and story lines that keep you wanting to see the next show. Decided to buy it to have it as a collection because I am sure to enjoy it again in time. I also got other family members hooked on the show as well. It is fun getting other people into the show too, and having the DVD collection lets you share the fun.

On a new DVD, there should be no bad discs. Three episodes are unwatchable. I will not buy DVDs on eBay again.

A Great Ending and a perfect addition to Season 2.0
Review created: 12/09/07

Battlestar Galactica Season 2.5 is the continuation of the season 2 disk set.

The disks start off with an extended version of the Pegasus episode that ended the Season 2.0 Disk set. After re-introducing yourself to Pegasus episode you get to watch the dual episode of Resurrection ship. In these episodes you get to learn more about the Cylon fleet and their ability to resurrect. A great action pair of episodes.

After the action of the first three episodes you spend more time with internal dynamics of the human survivors on the run. Epiphanies, Black Market, Sacrifice, and the Captain's Hand continue to move the story towards showing the internal struggles of a group of humans on the run from a conquering enemy.

The final Episodes of Downloaded show the internal struggles of the Cylons. The two part ending episodes of Lay Down Your Burdens show the entire struggles of the humans. A surprise ending to the election between Baltar & Roslin are incredible. The overall ending is beyond a surprise and leaves the storyline many new ways to go.

Overall, 5/5 A great addition to the story.

Battlestar galactica is a reimagining of a 70's show, but the current series is a far cry from that show. The core characters share the same name, but that is about it, these new characters are very well written, the story keeps getting better and better with every season, if there is anybody that have not given this show a shot because it is science fiction, you are in for a very pleasant surprise, with three seasons so far I have yet to find any flaws.

  Battlestar Galactica - Season 2.5
Review created: 06/06/07

For a long time I haven't seen such a great drama - if we ignore the fact that action is happening in some unknown period and space interactions between characters are very realistic, situations reflecting self-destructivness of the human race well described and we can learn a lot from them. I was wandering which side to take: Cylon or human?

All in all, great drama and I'm inpatient to see the next season,

  Battlestar Galactica 2.5

Battlestar Galactica is one of the best dramas I've seen in a long while. I don't consider myself a huge sci-fi fan but I find BG to be very realistic and the writing is terrific. I did enjoy season one as well as the mini-series better and I don't like the fact that the season is cut in two for the dvd sets. All in all, 2.5 is well worth your money and a great season ender!

  The story continues...
Review created: 05/15/07

Season 2.5 while an isideous marketing gimmick, delivers some powerful episodes from the riveting extended "Pegusus" episode, to the cliffhanger "Lay Down Your Burdens." We see that Baltar is starting to come into is own and acheive power that he deserves. However, the fate of Sharon and Helo's child becomes Roslyn's first deliberate cover-up from the military. Lee begins to grow as an officer, but his growth as person starts to get stunted when his relationships begin to deteriorate. All in all, a very operetic presentation of the story thus far, with all the flaws in our characters being exposed, exploited, and of course ignored. Season 2.5 immerses us in the fleet's efforts to find a home, and the desparation of the survivors to force the fleet leadership to make the obvious and most of the time wrong decisions. The characters are powerful, flawed and human...yet they still go on. A good buy for those who are die-hard or even casual BSG fans. Just wondering if Six(in Baltar's head) will dress in anything but red.

This series has a new spin on the original series. It keeps you wanting the next episode to come so I can se where the journey will take you next? I recommend this series to any science fiction fans the special effects are realistic. they have done a great job with this remake of the original with current technology highly recommended

  Battlestar Galactica - Season 2.5 (2006, DVD)
Review created: 04/03/07(updated 04/17/08)

Anybody who is a fan of Sci-Fi should definitely look into Battlestar galactica. Unlike other science fiction shows, Battlestar Galactica does not come with the cheese factor. So many of the shows I watch I can't get into because they simply are too corny. Not so here! BG is an incredible SFS and I high recommend it.
Warning to parents: There is some sex scenes and some language so it is definitely not suitable for young viewers. ENJOY!
Season 2.5 is the best yet!

Battlestar Galactica Season 2.5 Posted by CK-Auctions
Review created: 02/07/07
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

When the new vision of Battlestar Galactica premiered on Sci-Fi I was stunned. The mini-series completely blew away my preconceptions of what potential a remake could have. The dark, disheartening tone coupled with human strife and determination manufactured a cloud of energy around the series so dense that not even a Cylon nuke could penetrate. Following the mini-series the actual show got underway a short time later and offered a science fiction adventure like no other.

In case you are unfamiliar with the series at this point; let me fill you in. Because this new Battlestar Galactica is a re-imagining of the concept fans of the 1978 series will undoubtedly feel lost in the shuffle at first. There is homage paid to the original but in order to bring the franchise up to date several things were lost along the way. The original "toaster" Cylon models have been replaced by chrome-platted CGI badasses. Character names are mostly the same as well. Adama, Apollo, Starbuck, Boomer, Baltar and Tigh are present, though there are some role reversals and overhauls. The designs of the ships remain relatively unscathed so the Galactica itself and the alert vipers are easily identifiable.

The changes for the new Battlestar Galactica go well beyond the cosmetic. As far as the plot goes the basic story is still intact. There is a long-running war between the artificially intelligent Cylons and their creator's, the humans. Finally after such a long fight a peace accord has come into play, but the Cylons aren't exactly about to play fair. With a little help from the mentally unstable and treacherous Dr. Gaius Baltar, newly designed Cylon models (that look like humans) unleash a surprise attack that obliterates the Twelve Colonies.

When you look at the second season of Battlestar Galactica you truly have to look at the big picture in order to really appreciate the content. Splitting the season into two sets really created a rift in quality between both releases. The first half was fantastic and the second half was great, but not as good as the first. Since there are only 10 episodes featured in this set (not counting the re-edit of "Pegasus") the fact that each of them doesn't hit the ball out of the park hurts things a bit.

In an instant, humanity is tossed to the brink of extinction and though a handful have survived (the tune of about 50k), they find themselves on a desperate run from the Cylons. In the first season, and beginning half of the second, so much happens to the refugees of the colonies. To make a long story short they get it in their heads to look for a legendary Thirteenth Colony known as Earth and begin devoting their resources to finding its location. All the while the Cylons are on their heels and they face other problems including the many dark side of humanity.

  Battlestar Galactica Season 2.5 DVD
Review created: 01/07/07

I don't have cable, so I rented this series from our local library. After I started watching it, I could not stop!! I loved it so much I couldn't get enough of it. I stayed up for days with little sleep until I watch ever last episode. The characters and scenes are so real. It felt like I was in it, but as an observer. I long for more episodes. On a side note: I also recommend the "Deadwood Series" this is a Western Theme.
