Batman Forever - Not the best, but not the worst

Val Kilmer takes over as Batman and does a pretty good job. Batman Forever also introduces Chris O'Donnel as Robin. The villains are pretty cool (The Riddler and Two-Face) and the actors that play them do an admirable job.

Although a little too cartoony for me, I enjoyed this movie. The only problem I have with Batman Forever is that it gets old fast.

Final Verdict:

3/5

Rent or Buy?: Batman Forever is a must buy, it gets old fast, but it's the kind of movie you can rewatch every month or so without getting bored.

  Batman Forever: Fantastic Movie...Forgetable DVD
Review created: 05/04/08(updated 05/15/08)

This movie is absolutely amazing. I love it. Probably one of my favorite Batmans (after Batman Begins). The cast is stellar and the direction is great. By far the best of the old series. The DVD, on the other hand, was forgettable. The special features (on a second disc) are boring and oftentimes repeat other features. Luckily the movie is so good that it makes up for what it lacks in good special features.

  Batman Forever(1995) Val Kilmar,Chris O'Donnell
Review created: 03/22/08

In this third installment to the 90s grouped series of the Dark Kight, the battle fronts for both Batman and his villians are getting bigger and bigger. After two Batman films, michael Keaton has retired the cape and passed it on to Val Kilmar. Val is able to really personalize the character of Bruce Wayne, the supporting ego of Batman. From a freak accident at the Gotham City Circus Tent, the mother and father of the trapeeze act have been brutally killed by Harvey Two-Face(Tommy Lee Jones), the youngest of the boys, Richard Garyson,(Chris O'Donnell) attaches himself to Bruce after Bruce invites him to live at the Wayne Estate, having no family to run to. Thus the alter ego of Richard is born - Robin. That's not all. An obesssive, repulsive Edward Enigma(Jim Carrey) wants Bruce to be his partner in the business world. He joins up with Harvey Two-Face to take on Bruce, unknowing that Bruce Wayne is Batman. As the Riddler, Carrey and Tommy Lee make a great duo of wit and class in the acting, making some of the dark humor of the film rather enjoyable to watch.

Well it does have "Batman" in the title...

I liked this movie when I was younger just because it was a Batman film. I've owned it on VHS and original DVD release. Now I have the 2 disc edition as part of the Batman Film Anthology DVD set. I have seen it recently and its not nearly as good as I thought it was before. It is cheesy at times and the acting of Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones doesn't really fit. But it is a Batman movie and if your'e a fan, you've probably seen it also and have similar feelings.

Val Kilmer Takes Over the Role of Batman in Batman Forever
Review created: 07/11/06

Pros:
Good cast. Plot had potential.

Cons:
Movie turned corny and campy. Strange changes made.

Batman had been a popular comic book character for decades so it wasn t surprising when Tim Burton made Batman in 1989 and followed it with Batman Returns in 1992. The studio hadn t been completely happy with the direction Burton went in the second movie, so a new director, Joel Schumacher was hired. That was just the beginning of the changes made for Batman Forever, the third Batman movie. Harvey Dent, the former district attorney who became a criminal after acid was thrown on half of his face had a plan to kill Batman. Harvey started going by the name of Two-Face when he started his...

Batman Forever Riddled with Two-Faced Problems
Review created: 05/27/06

Pros:
Val Kilmer fills the bat suit well

Cons:
Joel Schumacher on the bat franchise, nipples on the bat suit?

The era of the Tim Burton Batman ended after the first two movies. Burton s outlook on Batman brought a renewed interest in the character especially when he brought him back to his dark roots. But along the way Burton s world also included the twisted and the macabre, something that seemed out of place for the Dark Knight at times. Parents responded negatively to the films because it was too dark. I think Warner Bros. thought along the same lines after Batman Returns and, with Burton s departure, decided to approach the franchise differently. What they planned was to make the next film more...

Riddle Me This, Batman: "When is the Comic Book Better than the Movie?"
Review created: 07/25/01
by: JediKermit -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Kidman's a honey, Jim Carrey can be entertaining and innovative...

Cons:
...or he can just be tiring. BAD interpretation of Batman, Robin, and the villains

The answer: almost always. Maybe there's something about the medium of comic books that doesn't translate well to the big screen. How, then, do we explain the successes of the comic book movies that DO work? Like "Superman," the first two "Batman" movies, the more recent "X-Men"...all of them worked well for a few reasons: 1) They were well written by people who cared about the characters. 2) They were directed by skillful directors who had both a visual flair for the extraordinary world of superheroes and were determined to make us feel something for the characters, both heroes and villains..

  Holy rusted movie concepts Batman!
Review created: 08/27/06
by: jackiechad-- a member of Epinions and Top Reviewer in Movies

Pros:
decent Robin treatment, TL Jones, nice DVD

Cons:
lost the gothic realism of the first 2, poor designs, poor characters

The third Batman movie marks the first real break in continuity. There s a different director, different Batman, different design, and different style. Whereas the first two are dark with an eye towards realism, this one is more like a newsstand comic book with more vibrant colors and more explosive action. In some ways this works well, but I preferred the more realistic approach which is why the Burton/Keaton movies are my favorites of the 4. Sure, comic book stylings in a movie can be fun, but isn t the point of a live-action adaptation to portray the drawings in a more realistic way? I...

Socko's Movie Review of Batman Forever
Review created: 07/25/01

Pros:
Jim Carrey is hilarious as the Riddler, and Chris O'Donnell isn't all that bad

Cons:
Script, editing, special effects, directing, everyone else's acting...you name it

"Your entrance was good, his was better. The difference...showmanship." Yep, it was this simple two-sentence structure that sent me on my voyage into viewing one of the worst superhero movies ever created. My brother and I have a tendency to toss movie lines at each other during appropriate situations, and this one flew from his mouth recently at work. For some reason, it triggered a nagging feeling in me that could not be quelled until I sucked it up and re-watched this movie. So I dug deep into my illustrious video collection to bring this one to you. I know what you are thinking. "John,...
