  Annie rocks!
Review created: 07/09/08

This album was created by Annie Lennox when she was going through a rough time in her personal life and was facing the task of finding herself again and healing as well. It rumbles with emotion and at times makes me laugh with the poignancy of her lyrics.

It runs the gamut from songs that make you want to get up and rock out to ones that make you tear up, like The Saddest Song I've Got.

This is my favorite Annie Lennox album. I bought it when I too was goign through a rough time, only to discover that it was the impetus for the CD in the first place for AL.

I highly recommend this CD.

  Annie Lennox, Bare
Review created: 02/29/08

This is Annie Lennox at her most personal and articulate; a beautiful collection of songs of emotional depth. I was told_or read somewhere_ that she was going through a divorce, and that she expressed her heartbreak as she experienced it. This is an unusual recording in that you hear and feel real sorrow and regret, not just a performance. And this is another jewel from a unique artist.

Going Bare with Annie Lennox's heartaching return
Review created: 06/19/03
by: telynor -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Back to doing solo work, Annie Lennox returns with a vengeance.

Cons:
Not for the timid, this cd has dark, melancholy themes.

Most will think of Annie Lennox and her glory days as the other half of the eccentric duo of Eurhythmics. When she struck out on her own solo career, two excellent albums, Diva and Medusa appeared. Then there was a long silence. A very long silence. Last week, Bare was released. Full of angst, self-doubt, and lyrics that break your heart to listen to, this is not for the timid or young, I might add. These are sad, melancholy torch songs, singing of lost loves, lost lives, lost opportunities, lost hope. These songs cut down to the bone, revealing the aching soul underneath in the aftermath of..

  Demystified, De-wigged, De-feathered: Diva

Pros:
Amen! Finally a proper follow-up to "Diva". "Bare" does not disappoint.

Cons:
That disturbingly familiar "19" logo on the back cover.

Despite the glamour we attribute to actors "of the stage", and the romantic notions we associate with the "star-on-the-door" dressing room, the diva's inner sanctum, the womb of theatrical meditation, the magical cocoon from which she emerges the magnificent performer - despite all this, anyone who's ever been an actor will tell you that dressing rooms are dirty things. When an actor (or actors, since most have to share) moves into a dressing room, it is dim and empty, the spare furniture cheap and worn - tables full of scratches, mirrors with cracks along the edges, grimy cinderblock walls...

  Naked and Vulnerable

Pros:
A great album, after a long wait

Cons:
Some quite depressing songs

After an 11 year break, Annie Lennox is back, with the release of her third solo album Bare . Annie, now an amazing 48, started her career way back in 1976, when she was a member of The Catch, together with Dave Stewart, her partner. They then formed The Tourists, and had a hit with I only wanna be with you . Dave and Annie went on to form The Eurythmics, and after the release of Sweet Dreams they became one of the most successful bands of the Eighties. In 1988, Annie married for the second time, but this marriage, as her first, was doomed to failure, despite giving Annie the joy of two...

  Tough Album with many delights
Review created: 03/23/04
by: emin -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Honest, frank, incredible lyrics with good music

Cons:
have to approach it with a positive frame of mind

This latest effort by Annie Lennox confirms to all of her current fans and others that she is here to stay. In a world where most music artists make more of the same album after album, year after year, Annie Lennox seems to just let things grow on their own and only release albums when a certain level of maturity and sophistication is reached. Bare naturally meets and exceeds my expectations. It is a heavily introspective album that reaches and touches on the fragility of human kind, the difficulty of relationships, the destruction that remains, and acknowledging that life can be shattering...
