  A good old gem
Review created: 08/05/07

If you use a MAC for its greatness you have to deal with its weakness, a paucity of decent games. Baldur's Gate II is an amazing, if now somewhat old school, game experience. Using the old D&D 2.0 rules you run through an engaging world with decent enough variability. If you are looking for great graphics and modern playability I have to ask why you are trying to game on a MAC if you want a good romp of an RPG classic this is a gem.

Black Isle has done it, the best RPG on the computer.

Pros:
everything improved from BG1, excellent graphics, gameplay, everything

Cons:
nothing other than loadtimes.

Baldur's Gate 1 was good. It wasn't perfect, due to some glitches, lack of high res mode, some plot and so forth. Apparently Black Isle has been listening to its gamers. Baldur's Gate II is a immense jump from BG1. This game has high resolution, one of the most important things. You can see a lot more on the screen and you can tweak it even above 800 x 600 although that s just excessive and your character would be the size of your pinky. Doesn't matter though, they give you the option and you can finally see large amounts of the beautiful world that BG2 takes place in. It allows also for...

  Make way, Villainy!

Pros:
complex and interesting plot; great graphics, sound and character interaction; huge replayability

Cons:
extremely addictive!

I ve been away from here for quite a while, so if the following jumble of words and expressions turns out to be total and utter rubbish, don t be surprised. However, I feel that from many hours of interesting, frustrating, and ultimately wasted attempts at playing this game, I feel that I can provide you with at least some idea about what it is about. As denoted by the II after the title, this game is the sequel to the hugely popular and successful Baldur s Gate. I haven t actually played the first one, and it is a bit of a moot point now that I have journeyed into the sequel quite a ways....

Hack, slash, zap! /repeat, Lots of options in this game

Pros:
Not too linear. Quests wait for you.<BR/>Lots of variations.

Cons:
None that I've found really

I've had this game for just over a year now and played it off and on throughout this time when not out of town on business or vacation. (Actual time spent playing probably 2-3 months worth of real time) There are NO spoilers or compromises here. I would have finished it earlier but I tried it through the first 2 times without ANY hints or tips and ended up re-starting to see how various actions came out. BASIC Story/plot line You start off with a well done video sequence of your character in a dungeon setting being magically tortured by an unknown bad guy for unknown reasons. His dungeon...

How Can You Hate Baldur's Gate?
Review created: 05/24/02
by: marcusaurelius -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
immersive/addictive gameplay, gigantic gaming world, limitless character development, engaging NPC interactions, imaginative storyline, infinitesimal sidequests

Cons:
not the best graphics, takes a while to figure out the controls

(NOTE: This is a [slightly modified] reprint of a review I wrote many months ago on this site but shortly thereafter deleted.) Where should I begin? This game was one of the most talked-about CRPGs (computer role-playing games, for all you novices) of 2000 and 2001 -- and for very good reason. There are simply so many positive elements to it. What follows is just a few of the reasons why this is hands down one of the best CRPGs of the past several years. Character Creation I could easily write an entire article on the complexity of character creation. But, alas, that is not my purpose here....

My Return To Baldur's Gate Was A Pleasant Surprise
Review created: 09/28/00
by: mickp-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Games

Pros:
Lovely graphics, improved voice acting, instantly compelling plot, faithful to AD&D rules, Interesting quests and sib-quests.

Cons:
Same annoying characters from BG1, Low end PII's might find the going a little slow, Pointless and out of character humour ruins atmosphere are times (but nowhere near as often or as badly as in BG1)

Over the last few years, Black Isle and Bioware have rarely been mentioned in the same breath as words such as "disappointing" or "Failure" and despite the fact that I myself was not overly impressed with the original Baldur's Gate, my faith was completely restored by the excellent Icewind Dale, which contained the same promising game-engine, without the nagging little irritations, so I have been as eager as can be to get a copy of Baldur's Gate 2 - Shadows of Amn into my hot little hand. I am sure I have a lot of you there scratching your head wondering how Icewind Dale is any different from.
