This is Michael Myers' second best flick. So I Married An Axe Murderer is his best in my opinion. His priceless character-acting from SNL has seemlessly transitioned to the big screen. Dr. Evil is memorable, and Liz Hurley is hawt! Out of all the Austin Powers' films, this is the best. Yeah, baby.

The Start of the Funniest Movie Trio Around
Review created: 02/08/08

This movie is punny and a goofy bit of harmless fun. Everyone's favorite spy get his groove on in this first movie in the series. They only get better, but this is the classic that started it all. We never had this one on DVD, and it had to be part of our collection.

This is an awesome movie that my family loves to watch over and over... Mike Myers keeps us all laughing throughout the entire movie, with all of his characters and quips.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

Great romping satire of "Dr. No." The price was right, too. As with any series, the original was the best of the three. The deleted scenes and extras always make the DVD purchase worthwhile.

  It's Shagadelic, Baby!

This is an extraordinarily funny movie.

Borrowing from several spy movies and shows from the past, it becomes an amazing conglomeration that will keep the viewer laughing. 1960's clothing and temperament are faithfully followed, then amplified to the point of becoming surreal. The plot is also very much in keeping with the story lines of spy movies past, yet expressed in a way that is campy and amusing.

The characters are very well developed! Mike Myers does a fantastic job of portraying a multitude of characters that are hilarious and extreme.

At first, an unobservant viewer may think that the makers just threw a bunch of stuff together... but the reality is, there are many wonderful undertones and details that demonstrate the care that went into making this movie.

Is it "tacky"? Sure. But it's tackiness raised to the level of being an art form. This is a movie that can be watched more than once, and makes a good contribution to a collection.

"This Sort of Thing Isn't my Bag, Baby"
Review created: 07/19/00

Pros:
Dr. Evil, very quotable movie

Cons:
lots of potty humor

After spending the beginning of last summer hearing quote after quote from this movie, I decided I had better see it sometime. So I did. And I got about what I expected. I certainly didn't expect great cinema from the man who brought us "Wayne's World." But while I found much of the movie disgusting, I have to admit that I laughed a lot. Mike Meyers plays Austin Powers, a James Bond-type from the sixties frozen until his arch-nemesis Dr. Evil (also played by Meyers) comes to power. Eccentric doesn't begin to describe this man with jagged yellow teeth who wears a crushed velvet suit with a...

  The Powers That Be
Review created: 02/26/02

Pros:
Some amusing moments. Supporting cast.

Cons:
The title character wears thin after twenty minutes or so.

Madame Rose, my publicist, Joseph, my manager, and I all boarded a chartered Lear jet for my trip to Rancho Mirage where I would soon become the latest celebrity to enter the fabled halls of the Betty Ford Clinic. Chemical dependency has become so chic these days that I was really looking forward to my time hobnobbing with my fellow stars as we shared intimate little secrets in exclusive twelve step groups. We landed at the airport and were met by Miguel, my chauffeur, with a rented limousine and fresh margaritas for the trip to my new temporary home. My arrival at Betty Ford, however, was a..

Pros:
Brilliant, hilarious jokes that never get old.

Cons:
Those who haven t seen the old spy movies might not get some of the jokes.

It's hard to make a good spoof movie these days, probably because anything can only be parodied once, if at all. Is it any surprise films like "Spy Hard," and "High School High" have bombed? "Austin Powers" isn't just a bunch of cliche parodies, but a strange, funny outlook and offbeat comedic style of its writer and star Mike Myers. The film starts out in the campy tradition of any spoof movie by setting up its premise quickly but doing so in a satirical manner. The setting is 1967 London where we meet Austin Powers (played by Mike Myers), an English spy who is just as popular as the Beatles.

It's a Man Baby! (Austin Powers)
Review created: 04/09/06
by: quipowerty -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Very funny and touching. The best part is the bubble bath with "Alotta Fagina".

Cons:
Some parts get emotional.

I've watched this movie a million times, and it gets more and more fun each time, so now it's time for me to start reviewing, heh heh... From the beginning the movie is very, very entertaining. Mike Myers' best film ever begins in 1960's London, where the blue-suited Austin Powers dances enthusiastically with what I would call a pageant of screaming and lovesick go-go girls, dressed in go-go boots, schoolgirl uniforms, checker-patterned dresses, and a London bobbie that dances with Austin to the 1960's tune. Dr Evil has put himself in cold storage, thus Austin Powers follows suit, and 30...

Pros:
Great parody of spy films

Cons:
I've seen it too many times

Fellow Toronto native Mike Myers apparently created the Austin Powers gimmick in a moment of complete ingenuity years before 1997, the release of the film. It was supposedly a random moment(s) of ingenuity that created the franchise - Myers, who shares a name with the famous serial killer boogieman, started talking with an English accent to his wife, and then went on to make the Austin Powers franchise out of his random ramblings. At the time of the movie's release, apres the somewhat tame but ultimately satisfying GoldenEye, people were yearning for something with a hint of originality....
