I listened to this album back in the day, when we called them albums. when I heard it again recently, I had to come out here to Ebay for my own. This recording has its strange and harsh parts, its Pink Floyd, but it also has the most pleasant and soothing sound of anything they did, kind of like its name. I am grateful.

  Atom Heart Mother- Pink Floyd

Most consider this to be the worst of the 14 original recordings of Pink Floyd. I do not agree. Even though, most of Pink Floyd's records are meant to be listened to from start to finish to get the full sense of what they were meaning, this CD is not like that. There are two, traditional long instrumental pieces. The six part Atom Heart Mother and the three part Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast are the bookends for this recording. My favorite part is the three 5 minute songs that were written by each of the principal song writers, Waters, Wright and Gilmour.
Water's song "If", is a beautiful piece of music about self analysis. Roger's voice is soft on this piece, unlike the harder vocals that he is traditional known for.
Wright's song "Summer of 68", has great instrumental and seems very biographical of what Rick may have gone through during their 2nd US tour in the summer of 68.
Gilmour's song "Fat Old Sun", is amazing. If one wants music to be visual and to escape into, this is the piece. Will put me in a good mood no matter what my day has been like. Gilmour plays this on his solo tours in a little different arrangement, and that is also amazing, but the original recording is my favorite.
I believe any of the three songs could have been released as singles at the time of the original release of the albumn. If someone only knows Pink Floyd by their radio songs, they probably wouldn't guess any of these individual songs were Floyd.

  Pink Floyd-Atom Hear Mother

I used to listen to this album all the time. I am so glad I bought it! It sounds even better as a CD. This album is a great example of classic Pink Floyd at its best. Don't hesitate to buy this one.

Attom Heart Mother and other things
Review created: 09/06/07

You know I could bitch about the couple of things I bought over Ebay that wern't quite what I had in mind. I could complain about the few things I thought were overpriced once I got them but guess what? I wouldn't have nearly the space I do now to rave about the things I thought were just so cool or the items I purchased that were just right. Ebay has just done remarkable things for me. I've found music I thought I never would be able to replace. I managed to find things to wear that I could never have found without it. Ebay...you're terrific!!

Atom Heart Mother often scares the average listener but those of us who are not afraid of different and unusual sounds love it. It's hard to figure out what to compare it to and the closest I can come is to say that it reminds me of a funky/Avant-Garde rock opera nightmare. Actually, I think that sums it up very well. If you like the strange side of Pink Floyd you should really appreciate this. If you only like the Floyd that you hear on the radio you might want to pass. 5 Stars.

Atom Heart Mother 1994 Remastered CD
Review created: 01/03/07(updated 02/22/07)

This 1994 Remastered Release of Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother is the 4th Pressing for this Album...The first pressing from 1985 with disc made in Japan; second pressing from 1987 with disc made in the USA; and the third pressing being the Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs (MFSL) Gold Ultradisc II CD from January of 1994, also made in the USA...

I believe the sound quality of this 1994 4th Pressing to be superior to that of the first two pressings...The CD booklet is 24 pages, with complete lyrics and additional photographs not in any previous release...The MFSL release only had 12 pages in the CD booklet...

The vinyl album was originally released in 1970 and is the album preceding Meddle from 1971...Avant Garde composer Ron Geesin is considered by some fans to be the 5th member of Pink Floyd for Atom Hear Mother, since Geesin arranged all the orchestral parts and the choir for this seminal album in Pink Floyd's early phase of creating unusual and psychedelic music...Geesin also composed the Soundtrack for the Motion Picture "The Body" with Roger Waters, also in 1970...

  A Breathtaking work of art

As any loooong time fan of any band or of great music, everyone has an album that really opens up new worlds of feeling and imagination. In my case with the great Pink Floyd, it happens to be this album.

"The Wall" may have been the first Pink Floyd album I ever experienced in my home country of Guatemala back in 1979/1980, but it's this album that takes my cake as my absolute favorite in the long, distinguished, and oh so rich discography of the supreme band that is Pink Floyd.... thanks, one of my best purchases this year!!!! Great album!!!

  Uncategorisable
Review created: 11/28/05
by:

Straightaway I'll say that I would like to award this album 4/5, but I'm only too aware that many people will hate it. My first reaction on hearing it was bafflement. Not only is the title track (occupying half the album) unlike any other Pink Floyd track, but it's not like anything else, ever. Containing horns, orchestration and a choir (amongst other things), the band almost seem to be playing second fiddle during much of it, but Richard Wright and Dave Gilmour do manage a nice spot of interplay during the centre section. "If", "Summer '68" and "Fat Old Sun" are quiet accoustic numbers which are pleasant enough but very, erm, pastoral? "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" is, well, Alan cooking and having his breakfast and occasionally musing about things interspersed with musical interludes. Most odd.
Whatever your taste in music, however extensive your music collection, buy this in the sure knowledge that it won't fit in.
[Quote from BBCs "The Fast Show":- "Uncategorisable. Is that a word? It is now."]

Why this cow has to make things so complicated?
Review created: 01/02/03
by: silktempest -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Complexity, experiments, fine melodies, superb production

Cons:
It will take centuries before you find them among oceans of filler!

1971. In the aphex of 'Art Rock' Era, Pink Floyd was one of the leaders of the pack. Everyone was doing something orchestrated - so why not Pink Floyd? Pink Floyd, however, is not that kind of Rock group you can call 'predictable'. Instead of Rock songs in classical fashion (aka Emerson Lake And Palmer), Electronic Jazz-Fusion freakouts (King Crimson) or hippie suites (Yes), Pink Floyd presented classical-structured songs...with barely discernible styles. They threw a little bit of everything in the mix - electronic experiments, folk-like ruminations, white noise, British psychedelia...A...

  Some Interesting Ideas
Review created: 06/18/04
by: evilfish42 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
The middle three songs are good, the cow :), some moments of brilliance

Cons:
Some filler, instrumentals get tedious at times

It was October 10th, 1970... And Pink Floyd have released a new album... Atom Heart Mother. Atom Hearth Mother was the fifth album from the band, and it was their most successful one so far, becoming #1 on the U.K. charts soon after its release. The album was experimental. The problem back then was that Pink Floyd did not really have a direction, so they were just stumbling around, and messing around in the studio. Atom Heart Mother is a good example of that experimentation. Almost as good an example as "Ummagumma". However you can also sense that Pink Floyd seem to be taking a new direction..

  Silence In The Studio...!
Review created: 03/04/00
by: flyingdutchman -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
A unique musical document

Cons:
Too far out for mainstream public

Silence In The Studio..! I've always had a special fondness for this album - among the early PF albums, it's been my all time favorite. In its time (1970) it was quite a revolutionary album, and it sure is a merit of the particular cultural climate in Britain's early seventies that such an album could actually be produced... After all, at the time Pink Floyd was still much of an underground band. The first track on the album, which is also the title track, is a prestigious suite the length of an LP side, and sees the illustrious quartet backed by a full-blown orchestra and choir. It opens...

  Pink Floyd lacked identity, consistency
Review created: 12/17/01
by: sandford -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Fat Old Sun is one of Pink Floyd s better songs, with If close behind.

Cons:
The title track and Alan s Psychedelic Breakfast are, in many spots, painful to listen to.

Although Atom Heart Mother treads lightly on ground Pink Floyd would saturate just a few years later, it s as schizophrenic as the band s then-recently booted leader, acid-fried Syd Barrett. The album s bookends, a long, epic instrumental written mostly by classical-music composer Ron Geesin and a throwaway jam session with silly distractions, sandwich a strong trio of songs, one each by the group s three main songwriters. With the effective but confused-sounding A Saucerful of Secrets behind them and the band s first cohesive, post-Barrett album yet ahead of them, Atom Heart Mother shows a...

  Love it or Hate it
Review created: 06/21/02
by: i-am-sman -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Very different and still awesome side of Floyd

Cons:
Not everybody's cup of tea

Atom Heart Mother and Ummagumma are the 2 Floyd albums that even the biggest Floyd fans sometimes criticize. However with some resignation I purchased Atom Heart Mother, and after the first listen I was a little taken aback because it sounded nothing like any of the other Floyd albums that I'm so fond of - Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Meddle, even Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Still it wasn't bad different just different. For starters there is much more of an orchestra type sound, especially on the first track - the 23 minute long epic Atom Heart Mother Suite. This song has a lot of...
