A moving true story located in pennsylvania.
two young teens reunited with their father who is the ring leader of a family run band of theives that go around the country side stealing farm equipment.
The oldest boy wants to join the family and eventually both have joined their day and they witness a murder their dad committed. Now the father has decided he needs to kill them both and does indeed kill the youngest and kills the oldest sons girlfriend then tries to kill the oldest but is befuggled in his attempt and is finally brought to justice where the ending scene shows the oldest son pointing out his father in court as his attempted murderer.
This movie really touchs ya and makes you feel the emotions. Very highly recommended.

I've enjoyed this movie for years -- superb performances by Walken and Penn and the others, and it's especially nice to see Millie Perkins (of THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK) again. James Foley's direction is striking, yet not intrusive. The characters are powerful creations -- Walken's is one of the nastiest creeps you'll ever see on screen. A minor classic, well worth owning.

This movie showed the power of persuasion of one mind over another. Good v Bad. The producer selected great actors for this film. I would recomend it to anyone.

  At Close Range 1986

Pros:
Walken & Penn

Cons:
a little grainy

If your family tree only has one branch .. You might be a redneck. And rednecks is just what this movie is slam-jack about. Spittin mean spirited daddies, kiddies runin' amok, small town hoods and brutality. Got it all. On top of that, and I can t believe I m saying this, Christopher Walken with color in his face. An actual TAN, not that I look like I m staring in the Night of the Living Dead sequel pasty white face he normally has. This is what I know Brad Whitewood, Jr. is the town bad boy. Can t get along in school, is a bit out of control. A good looking kid, he catches the eye of Terry,.

Like father, like son? Hell, no!

Pros:
Sean Penn, Mary Stuart Masterson

Cons:
pace, plausibility, look

In this bleak 1986 movie, Sean Penn and Mary Stuart Masterson were splendid as the young lovers, but the film is torturously slow and mostly unpleasant up until Madonna's song "Live to Tell,"and that does not come until the closing credits. Christoper Walken plays yet another psychotic killer: this time out he was a filicide in a really bad reddish wig. Penn plays Brad Whitewood, Jr. , an uncomplicated, not particularly brash, but brave youth, who does not seem so stupid that he doesn't know that his father is very bad news. Out of boredom with the tv-addicted mother and grandmother who...

Daddy Dearest Chris Walken in: At Close Range

Pros:
Performances. Especially Walken.

Cons:
Too ugly, too real.

At Close Range is a complicated film that is pretty hard to put down in just one viewing. So I saw it twice. Do I enjoy this film? No, I don't think so. Is it fascinating? You bet. Not to mention incredibly well acted, directed, written, etc. For years i've heard nothing but praise about this film. It's always been on my list of, "films I gotta see." Well I finally saw the film. At first I was disappointed. It wasn't at all what I was expecting. The film made me feel very uncomfortable, and the final effect, well let's just say it ruined my evening. But I couldn't get it out of my head, no...

Pros:
Brilliantly performed

Cons:
Lumpy middle

Few folks, I suspect, would ascribe "electricity" to the slow, methodical At Close Range, but a current is there, supplied mainly by Sean Penn and Christopher Walken as a rural delinquent and his deadbeat dad, respectively. The pair of them has a yin yang rapport that's like halves of the same intense, fluctuant performance--young Brando split in two. A third participant is worth mentioning, actress Mary Stuart Masterson, who showed extraordinary promise in this 1986 production as the punk's instinctual girlfriend. It helps that her beauty is not outrageous; Masterson's tomboyish attributes...

  All In The (Crime) Family

Pros:
Excellent performances by Walken and Penn, Engrossing storyline.

Cons:
May be too bleak and depressing for some.

We all know that our relationships with our parents can get tough and tense at times. We all wish that there were moments where we didn't have to deal with them. But in the long run we realize how much they love us and care about us. Unfortunately this isn't the case for everyone. In fact, for some kids parents do not care at all and some even abuse them. These serious real-life issues are taken to monstrous extremes in At Close Range, a harrowing drama that is also an excellent film. At Close Range was first released in the mid 1980s (1986 to be exact). It starred then newcomer Sean Penn and.
