I own a Plam Treo 755 with all the bells and whistles, but needed something with some logevity to the battery for flights. I went to buy a classic 80 gig but they were sold out. They just put this out so I played for a little and decided to buy it... So here is my evaluation after 3 days of use. No issues with the interface as of yet with the exception of using it on the internet, for one my GMail account. You can get email but you can not respond in the body area of the return email. The keyboard will not come up. I have noted several other areas that this happens. Apple needs to give us a button to pull up the keyboard or fix the bugs that do not permit it to come up when needed. ( It pops up automatically when needed, well almost)
Second issue is the brightness adjustment at lower settings flickers. Called Apple and the reset was used (wipes it out to start over) Not a real big deal but it did fix it for a while, it is back this time they said to return it. ( This takes a 156meg down load os it takes a few minutes to get it done)
For as much as it cost it should have some sort of sock or cover with it, not a chance. So far I have only seen silicone covers, most of the others do not protect the edges, I am certain there are inventers/manuafacturers busy on this one...If there aren't they need to get busy, the edges will take a beating, this things slips out of your hand pretty easily.
If you have big fingers the keyboard is going to be a little frustrating, especially if you are trying to do a search function on Ebay, you can not see what you typed until you close the keyboard.
Fantastic sound, much better than my 60gig gen 5 IPOD, Slick interface, no games or any demos on it when purchased, There should be some.
Price is varied, low is Sams Club, high is most of the buy it nows listed here, even the cost on Apples site is less. Do your homework, try one out on the sites you want to use "before you purchase" save the pain of taking it back if it does not work cause Java and flash are NOT supported.
Like anything anymore, the buyer is the beta tester for this, really cool, but there are lots of things missing that should be there. Apple has always been good about all in one on their Macs but for some reason they were so taken by the neat interface they forgot to install the needed things.
There could have been a camera in this thing and made it worth the sub $300.
Bottom line, love it but not enough to keep it, goes back tomorrow and will wait for the next generation that has everything in it and it functions on the internet with keyboard support. Probably the easiest set up to use the WIFI I have seen...
