Apple iPod Video Fifth Gen. White (60 GB, MA003LL/A) Digital Media Player

before buying the 60gb video ipod i have now, i owned a 20gb creative zentouch. though that player was pretty satisfactory as well.. apple soon had so many features the zentouch didn't, i had to switch.

the layout in general.. quite nice. the screen's big enough to impress someone upon the first sight of it, as is the picture quality. the 30gb is TINY. (i bought a black 30, and exchanged it for a white 60 the next day.) after having both the 30 & 60, it's fair to say that they're both an amazing weight & size for their respective storage capacities. both quite impressive. unfortunately, it still has the same shiny metal back casing that scratches AMAZINGLY easily, as does the front panel/screen. i didn't take the plastic cover off til i got ahold of a case, and mine's still come out scratched a bit.

the music playback. excellent. including the album art on the 'now playing' display is fantastic. reaches great volume, but i haven't heard it on anything but the issued headphones, so i don't really know how it stacks up in terms of bass and whatnot. only complaint i'd have is, after using a creative product for a year.. i miss the 'find' option. that is, with every list of songs, albums, and artists, at the top you could click 'find' and choose a first letter to jump to. once i get completely used to the scrollwheel, i'm sure that won't be a huge problem.

the video playback. most people are complaining about this feature, and what i will say is that i'd STRONGLY recommend buying a fourth-gen ipod or a different brand if you aren't a) computer literate or b) have a computer literate friend that can give you a hand. because if you don't have a good understanding of video file types, qualities, and conversions, you WILL NOT be able to use this feature easily. unless, of course, you use itunes' video purchases. (to give you an idea.. if you want a tv show, you'll be purchasing them for $2 an episode.) unfortuantely, apple didn't make this feature easy to use. the player itself is fine.. in fact, the video quality is exceptional given the fact that it's mostly a music player. i will say that the only time my ipod has frozen, it's been while watching videos. it gets a little fritzy while viewing them in terms of using the scrollwheel, but it hasn't been a major issue for me yet.

otherwise.. it has a great photo storage capability, four games, a clock, stopwatch, contacts, calendar, etc. all kinds of extra features NOT INCLUDING an fm tuner, which would have been nice to have.

and for older ipod users.. if you have accessories that connected at the top of the ipod, they will no longer work on the new ipods. things like the itrip have been rendered useless.

overall - thoroughly research the mp3 players available. creative, sony, and iriver all have great contributions. depending on YOUR personal music collection and intentions, you may be more fit for a nano.

be practical.

I purchased the ipod from this seller, and the add said some scratches from use, works great.When i reciver the product it was absolutly hammered! you can barely see the screen, the plug for the charger is cracked and the connector has to be bent for it to work and the plastic face of the ipod is half off,. This is the worst product i have bought and people should not purchase from this liar of a seller. He/she ripped me off and he/she will do the same to you. You dont sell sombody else your junk, thats just dishonest, and cheap.DONT EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS PERSON!!!!!!!!!!!

I purchase used, broken iPods frequently on eBay, fix them, clean them up and resell them. The 20GB and 40gb are the ones that are most frequently for sell and you rarely see a 60 GB. I bid and won this 60Gb Photo iPod. I was very surprised when I received the iPod in a new black holder and upon removal the iPod looked nearly new. I paid about $10 more for this one than a 20GB so I am absolutely thrilled with my purchase. I sure hope I can fix this one, but if I cannot I will send it to my tech and I think I will keep it for my personal use. I have a 15 GB 3rd Gen. that I have had for 5 years that has had a new battery once and that is all. It still runs like a champ. I think I deserve a new 60 GB. This one is a honey and I really appreciate the seller, he or she kept this one in fantastic physical shape. In comparison, it is nearly as good as ones I have gotten that were completely refurbished. I really appreciate it.

The item was accurately described and in good working condition when it arrived. I have enjoyed using the product every single day. I bought it for using during school work and the item works perfectly.

This ipod came very clean, few scratched on it, ear buds, and PC cord but no outlet adaptor with the unit. I have been using it for 2 weeks now and not a single glitch. I would say an A1 Purchase!!

Most of the reviews I read were based on the purchase of an item and not the item itself. Hopefully, I can write something that'll help!

I upgraded from a 4G Photo iPod due to logic board issues and was reluctant to go 5.5G or Classic because of live recording capabilities. Not an issue, really, as there are microphones available that'll do the job. But if you've spent money on accessories for your older models, try to find a replacement.

That being said, the 5.5G is FANTASTIC! I'm not much of a video watcher, so downloading videos and movies to my iPod isn't a necessity. But I do have tons of Photoshop/Lightroom podcasts that are ideal for viewing or listening to on the road. And with a simple dock with S-Video or RCA video output, you can plug it into any available TV set with matching inputs. THE QUALITY SURPRISED ME!! Most down-scaled video is trashy and pixelated. But with Apple's compression the video is much better than one would expect.

The standard extras, like importing notes, calendar, timers are all great. But a new one I wasn't aware of was the stopwatch. I give a lot of public talks, and it's great to have a timer that all I have to do is activate and go! I tell you, if this had voice recognition software I'd be set for life!

If you can find a good bargain (as I did for a pre-owned model), then by all means purchase it! Read the feedback though, and as always... buyer beware!

The 5th gen ipod 60gb is good but its not perfect...the one I got was used with normal light back scratches but that happens to them all. The clicker wheel is touchy! It makes for hard fine song selecting. The sound is good too there are many different eq selections too. I used a Sandisk Sansa e260 4gb and loved that but needed more gbs. The 60 gb is plenty for me and have all my cds on it and a full movie ith a lot to spare!

I can't really give you an opinion on my item,because....i never recieved it.

Ipod in great condition. New battery works great. The 60gb can hold all of my itunes library. Holds up well in warehouse conditions.

I love my 60GB iPod. I had a 30GB and filled it up so i bought the 60GB. I actually only paid $30 after I sold my old one so it was a great deal. It works great and i use it alot. I love eBay

And although there are a lot of competitors in the game that are more or less providing the 'perfect' solution, I admire the way Apple evolved the IPod with the video feature and the finishing touch of the design. Although a larger screen would be more convenient, the playback looks perfectly sharp. Way to go.

Nothing compares to the look and ease of the Apple iPod. The 5th generation combines the ease of the click wheel with the video functionality. Compared to the 6th generation Classics, the 5th gen videos are a little cumbersome, but nothing compared to the 60gb 4th gen. The major (and really only significant) issue is the fragility of these players. It's hard to remember that you're carrying a working hard drive in your pocket, and that you need to treat it as such. One accidental fall can ruin your iPod. However, the good news - even broken ones have decent resale value! And there's just nothing like having your 13,000 favorite songs with you at all times...

The 60 GB Apple IPOD is great. Using ITunes the IPOD is very easy to upload music, podcasts, audiobooks, movies, video, etc to. Once the music is on the IPOD the menu system is easy to use to navigate to your songs. There are default playlist that are nice, like "My Top Rated" which plays only the songs that you have a 4 or 5 out of 5 rating to. I am not a huge fan of the turn wheel for selecting songs and navigating through lists. I always seem to move it up or down 1 field more than I intend. All in all I would say this is an excellent product.
