Apple iPhone (AT&T)

This review is for the 1st generation iPhone. For a review of the iPhone 3G see my other reviews.

Advantages iPhone 1.0 vs iPhone 3G:

- at present is its ability to be unlocked for use on other cell carriers. If using AT&T, no advantage

- EDGE data plan is $10 cheaper

I've owned a cell phone since 1992. I've always had a "top of the line cell phone" (I've always had AT&T = formerly Cingular = formerly BellSouth Mobility). I've had some really good phones: Motorola v60 "Vader", Nokia 6102i, and a Sony Ericsson T610. Then I've had some REALLY bad ones: Motorola RAZR, SLVR, Sony Ericsson s710a, Sony Ericsson Walkman W400, & most recently an HP iPaq 6515. In my 16 years of having cellphones, I've had over 100 (yes 100+) different models & makes.

I haven't had signal issues w/ many phones, it's always been asthetics that bothered me or the clumsy interfaces.

With every phone I've ever had, no matter how long I've had it; I always had a problem placing a call on hold & answering another call or joining a call into a 3-way call. With the iPhone interface being so well designed & the features so clearly labeled; I don't have that problem any more.

As for the design, the Sony Ericsson s710a was a beautiful phone, but the way it flipped open was awkward. When you opened it, it flipped upside down. You had to open it, then rotate the phone to use it.

With the HP iPaq 6515, I hated the keyboard. It was hard to see, crowded w/ characters & difficult to use w/ my large fingers. This is the problem I face w/ almost all phones w/ physical keyboards except the HTC 8525; which has the best phone keyboard of any phone. iPhone users should try the pogo stylus.

The iPhone keyboard is clear, easy to use, & once you get use to it - allows for very fast typing. I used it more in the first 10 days of owning my iPhone than I ever used ANY keyboard on ALL phones I've ever owned.

The camera on my Nokia 6201i was great, but it was difficult to use & to get pictures off of.The camera on the iPhone is terriffic - the viewfinder & capture buttons are crystal clear. It's easy to get the photos from iPhone to computer for editing.

Unlike most smartphones - that have Windows Mobile - the iPhone has an intuitive interface that's easy to understand & navigate. There's no need to read a manual - it's just simple to understand.

Before the iPhone I hated text messaging ... I texted more in the 1st 10 days than I have in the last 10 years!

Because an iPhone uses standard iPod sync & charge cables, accessories are easy to find.

Battery life is very good - even when utilizing power draining features like Wifi & Bluetooth.

I can actually use the calculator on an iPhone, unlike on other cell phones where you have to figure out what key corresponds to an add/multiply/divide.

The Google Maps feature is amazing w/ the ability to use satellite data. The GPS integration w/ LocateMe is awesome (upgrade to 1.1.

The weather forecast widget is nice to have - especially in the summer so you can plan your outdoor week or weekend spontaneously.

Only complaints:

- Edge data network is acceptable, but I wish was faster
- I'd really like to see bluetooth data exchange so I could sync an iPhone via bluetooth.
- FM transmitters don't work well due to interference

Invaild complaints:

- the keyboard is hard to use - at 1st it is ... it definitely takes getting used to. Once you start letting an iPhone correct your mistakes & just hitting the space bar, it becomes pretty fast

Apple has finally came out of the dark ages. Remember back in the mid to late 90's when no one would touch an Apple product..the times have changed for Apple. After a good revamping, products got extremely better and more appealing to the eye. Now, with the launch of the Apple iphone, one of Apple's newest products to enter the GSM cell phone market..profit's are going through the roof.

The phone has many great features including Wi-Fi, EDGE, touch screen (which is great if you do alot of text messaging..I can't stand the pressing of buttons to get to the right alpha letter or number), internet browsing, and if you happen to get your hands on one, the new 3G iphone has built in GPS and 3G cpabilities..but were talking about the previous generation model.

Don't jump up and down yet, the iphone is lacking a few things..MMS for one, a 2MP camera, the GPS on the new firmware 2.0 does not give turn by turn instructions (a version 2.1 is coming soon to correct that issue), no streaming video. and is locked to ATT (unless you happen to know one of those people who can unlock it for you..yes, the new firmware 2.0 is now unlockable).

All in all, it is still one of the hottest phones on the market. What the iphone lacks, certainly makes up for in features. Being a seller on here, I sell them unlocked to different countries around the world and I must say..people absolutely love them. Although no longer available from Apple, the previous generation model is not obsolete, most of the features on the new 3G is still the same as on the old one. Find yourself an ebay seller and pick one up today.

Buy this phone!!! you will regret it if you dont! i just bought 1 and right now the only thing going through my head is OMG~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my first time I buy on EBay, and unfortunately, it is turning to be a nightmare.
Please people do not buy from this seller, since I am afraid this is fraud.
I have won a bidding, and pay the same day to expedite the shipping on June7th.
I paid $445 for an I Phone and I still didn't receive any phone. What's worse is that I have sent emails qith questions to the seller, with no answer. I am now contacting the law enforcement authorities to inform them of what it is happening, and call my bank to despute the charges.

I've wanted an iPhone since I first saw that Apple was making a phone. After a year of waiting I finally decided to buy one. I was so excited to get it and I eagerly tried to set it up. Everything was fine until I got a message saying your activation requires additional time to complete. So I waited...and waited. Finally I went to my local AT&T store and they said it could take up to 3 hours (because I am transferring a phone number) Eight hours later I am still waiting for the phone to activate. It's a little disappointing to spend $330 and then have to wait to use my phone. I have no doubt the phone will be amazing but there is a serious flaw with their system. I've read online that some people have had to wait up to 48 hours for their phone to work. No one wants to spend that much money and then have to wait to use their phone for 2 days! I'm going to call their customer service tomorrow which I've heard isn't all that helpful. Which me luck.

I am very pleased with the iPhone and really enjoy using it. Too bad there is no option for copying/deleting music/photos files.

This is the coolest piece of electronics i have ever had. i was a little shaky with apple/mac since i have always had Microsoft. the user-ability on this phone is amazing, and i highly recommend this phone. thank you apple for a great product.

I ever receive the phone so i contact paypal and they got money back. Seller said they send it already but some how the tracking they send me is bogus. Tracking number is not the USPS system. I give a Average rating because I am nice and because I also got my money back. Just wasting my time bitting on this auction, and contact paypal for this mess.

iphone is a great. It has all the things i could want from a mobile phone. The
only negative is that i couldn't transfer my contacts from the sim card and i will have to add them all manually.

All i can say is wow! Great phone if you can call it that. This thing does it all, phone, camera, pc, gps unit. EVERYTHING! As soon as you get one you will say the same thing. AWESOME

The iphone is nice but it seem. That battery have be charge every. Depending how much you use it. Maybe three times a day.

The phone is actually very nice with the exception of a few things. For one, the speakers are known for being very quiet, so texts cant be heard very well if your receive them. Also, there is no re-send option for text like other phones. Also, the touch screen is made of glass, so there is a chance a drop could ruin the phone, and Apple will charge $200 to replace it.Other then that I cant think of anything else wrong with it.
