Production, meroable performances and tunes that infectively resound within ones mind once reexposed to this excellent production. Another to add to your collection!
What can I say, it's the same recoding I grew up with, only it's not a 33 record album with the scratches. There have been hundreds of Annies since Andrea McCardle (sp?) but none that can sing like she does. The case features photos of the original cast and gives you a glimpse of the recording process. The CD is full of songs everbody loves. My only complaint is the last few songs. I thought it was Andrea's first performance of "Tomorrow." Instead, it is the writer and producer singing, trying to sell the show to investors. It's poor quality with a piano. The kids always stop the CD when it gets to that point. Although I'm sure there are some who will love this unique aspect of it.

Pros: Excellent Bonus Tracks
Cons: I've already heard "Tomorrow" a few times too many
One of the first in the Columbia Broadway Masterworks series of reissues, Annie set a standard that later reissues have not entirely lived up to. The CD is essential, not just because it records a skillful and popular score, but because it gives the listener an unusually lengthy and clear-eyed look into the creation of a Broadway musicals. If you're a fan of Annie, this is absolutely the recording you should get. If you're interested in musicals, you should get this CD even if you aren't wild about the show. The bonus tracks are worth it. The Show This incredibly successful musical started...

Great remastering -- fun demo tracks added

Pros: great sound, fun bonus tracks
Cons: none
I confess it -- I loved this show from the moment I saw it in previews back in April of 1977, got the album the day it was released (in "quadrophonic stereo," if you remember that short-lived format), and relished the first CD. The sound quality on this recording has always been excellent, so I was a little skeptical about the need for a new edition. Luckily, the folks behind this re-issue did a fine job, making it more than worth having. The classic original cast of Andrea McArdle, Reid Shelton and the glorious Dorothy Loudon sound great -- even more vibrant than on the previous CD mastering.

Annie - Remastered

Pros: Bonus tracks
Cons: none
I originally bought "Annie" when it was first released on CD, something I was very excited about getting after wearing out my vinyl record of the original album. Now "Annie" has been remastered with several bonus tracks, ten to be exact. However, these bonus tracks are rough drafts from 1972 according to the booklet and do not feature Andrea McArdle. So, if you're looking for new material on McArdle, you won't find it among the bonus tracks. Still, they are very interesting to listen to, as they show the progress of how the songs were shaping up. Of course, any CD today that's been remastered.
