Where oh Where did Johnny go? Take a buddy to the movies W/O

Pros:
Good Acting - Fast Moving

Cons:
Strange - and weird

My daughter, Artbyjude, has convinced me that she and I should partner for this write off. The movie we decided to watch together is Angle Heart. I realize that I do not write very good movie reviews. Sometimes it takes me a long time to figure out just what is going on. This time it took me about sixteen years. My Cleveland daughter-in-law talked me into going to the show with her to see this one in 1988 when it first came out. She loved it I hated it. Not only did I dislike some of the bloody scenes, but I couldn t figure out what was happening I worked in a mid city high school for twenty..

Alan Parker s ANGEL HEART (1987) Bring a Buddy to the Movies Write-off
Review created: 06/01/03

Pros:
DeNiro, the plot and structure, cinematography, maybe Bonet

Cons:
Rourke, drags in the middle and is a little confusing at times.

In this write off, the only requirement was to watch the same movie as your buddy, and presumably without talking about it, offer two separate reviews. My buddy on this endeavor was my mother granniemose. I am not sure how she liked this movie, and our discussions have been at a minimum. However both of us have discussed the movie with the person who brought the movie to our attention, my daughter Arinn. So we may come closer than we think in our review of ANGEL HEART. (See link below) The movie , directed by Alan Parker was controversial in its day, and would probably still arouse some...

Maybe Mickey Rourke should burn, but this movie shouldn't...

Pros:
Acting, plot, direction, cinematography, plot, symbolism.

Cons:
I've seen better movies.

One of the better movies I've seen in a while, that I've enjoyed for every aspect, is Angel Heart. The performances drove 25th Hour, but this movie has everything going for it- acting, style, a cool plot, a solid ending, and symbolism out the wazoo. It isn t a great movie by any means, and I doubt it intends to be, but what it does, it does so well. I imagine I ll find myself renting it several times over the course of my life. Mickey Rourke is, quite plainly put, the bomb. The style and character he brings to our Manhattan protagonist, Harry Angel , is cool beyond words. He fits so naturally.

  Alan Parker's Angel Heart

Pros:
Intriguing storyline with a great ending, fine performances, great direction

Cons:
none

Angel Heart: TriStar Pictures Rating: USA: R/ USA: Unrated/ With all the recent hullabaloo over The Sixth Sense and its twist ending, I decided that it was time to take a stroll down memory lane and review an older movie with an equally inspired twist finale Alan Parker s 1987 film Angel Heart. Based on the novel Falling Angel by William Hjortsberg, Angel Heart is an exercise in horror and Chandler-esque hard-boiled noir one that manages to blend the two disparate forms in such a seamless fashion that you wonder why no one ever attempted it sooner. Harry Angel (Mickey Rourke: Barfly, 9 Weeks).

Pros:
Great acting, plot and direction.

Cons:
Generic first half; familiar ending.

Whatever happened to Mickey Rourke? The guy was on top of the world in the 80 s; he was a sex-symbol and A-list actor who even showed up on a David Bowie album. Then, he decided to go back into his original career choice of boxer and it all went down the crapper. Now the guy is rebuilding his career with small cameos and supporting parts and it seems the world has all but forgotten that he was once one of the biggest stars out there. I m personally a huge fan of Rourke; he doesn t have the biggest range, but he always picks interesting projects and is always a joy to watch on-screen. Angel...
