This epic film has to be seen!!! The music is incredibly beautiful and haunting, and along with the story stirred my soul to the core. Gerard Butler s charismatic, passionate performance as the Phantom is mesmerizing, and Emmy Rossum s pure, crystal voice truly makes her an Angel of Music. The sets are lavish, and it was very impressive to see the intricate and incredible amount of detail that went into the making of this film. I truly enjoyed the interviews with the cast and all the extras on the second disc - very worthwhile!! After seeing Phantom on TV, I had to own the DVD, and will watch it many times to come. The music has been in my head and heart constantly since I first saw the film and I will never let it go. This DVD is definitely one you have to have!!

After having seen the play on Broadway I just had to own the movie. Of course the play is the way to see it, but I also loved this movie as well. The acting, scenery and costuming are wonderful. I highly suggest this movie. The music, whenever you hear it, will touch your heart.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, in my opinion, is the greatest attempt from stage to movie. From the wonderful (and talented!) cast to the extravagant sets, this movie is one of my all time favorites. Nominated for 3 Oscar's including Best Achievement in Art Direction, Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song and Best Achievement in Cinematography. Golden Globe nominated for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and Best Original Song - Motion Picture. Not only was the film a critical success, but die hard theater fans also enjoyed the relevance to the classic stage production and the film's acknowledgment to the original book, The Phantom of the Opera. Whether or not you have seen the stage show or read the book, the film is a must see to anyone who enjoys talent, excellent writing or well thought out sets.

This move is astounding and the singing of Gerard Butler is a wonderful surprise. I have recommended it to all my friends. I saw the play about 10 years but was not nearly as impressed as when I saw this movie for the first time. I could not remember how it ended and so as the story unfolded, it was a delightful adventure for me.

I saw this movie a few years ago. Then I went to see it on Broadway, and it just wasn't the same for me. The movie, this time, is MUCH better.

I had the single DVD movie and loved it! However, I really wished they had put some of the extra's in it that they sometimes put in with the movies. WEll, I got my wish! The second DVD is all the special stuff you would want...the making of the movie, special effects, the actors and actresses, the history of the movie, interviews with Andrew Lloyd Weber and scenes from former versions.
I'm so glad I bought it!

The Phantom of the Opera is a great Broadway play that I saw last fall, then I bought the DVD. It's wonderfully accurate to the play. The music score is haunting and keeps playing in my head for days. Next step for me was to purchase the soundtrack.
I'm not sure what it is about this story, but Webber and his cast of musicians, playwriters, etc. really put on a "good show".

I never saw the original play, heard its soundtrack or even read the book. At first I rented Joel Schumacher's Phantom Of The Opera because I am a fan of Gerard Butler (okay, I have a crush on him). After watching this movie now I am totally in love with him! That aside, I do not even like musicals but I liked this movie so much I didn't want to return it to the rental place and watched it five more times before I did. That's why I purchased it from eBay and I am so happy I did. Only because they didn't have it at my local retail outlet in widescreen format (I can't stand full screen!).

I saw the Phantom of the Opera in Las Vegas and it was the best show I have ever seen in my life!! So I decided to get the movie so I could see it when ever I wanted to. The movie was okay, but compared to the Las Vegas show, it was nothing. Gerald Butler's voice (Phantom from the movie) was a sad disappointment compared to the Phantom from the show, the other singers were good though.

If you've never seen the Phantom of the Opera before, you may or may not enjoy the movie depending on your interests, but EVERYONE will LOVE the Las Vegas Show!!

This movie should be definetly one you should see! The music is wonderful and the 2 CD edition is a must see. The second cd feautres lots of extras on the original broadway plus how they created it into a movie for home viewers, plus of course some deleted scenes. You will also want the soundtrack after you've seen the movie.

I could watch this movie over and over again. Butler is a fantastic Phantom and even Raoul has a superb actor playing his role. A must see!!!!

I absolutely love the live musical. This is an amazing silver screen adaption. Two thumbs way up!!!

Must be a part of any classic video collector's library. Longes running stage play in history I'm told. The music is captivating and the plot timeless.

Joel Schumacher's film of Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit theatrical production "The Phantom of the Opera" is gorgeously filmed and well-cast overall. Gerard Butler is no Michael Crawford but he's certainly dashing enough and his voice isn't bad. The one drawback of the film is that despite how beautiful it is, without the ingenious stagecraft of the show as a distraction some of the weaknesses of the story are much more apparent and some of the scenes added to flesh out the story (especially the sword fight between Raoul and the Phantom in the cemetary) end up hurting rather than helping the narrative. Overall, though, it is a very good transfer of the show to the film medium.

The bonus features on the DVD are very nice. Although there is no commentary track there is a fairly comprehensive documentary about the making of the film. More interesting, however, is a separate documentary about the origins of the stage production that features some nice footage of Crawford and Sarah Brightman (among others) and lots of behind-the-scenes footage as well.

Love it. I used to own it. Lost it in my last move. Tried to find it through stores. Got tired of hunting around and figured going to ebay would work, as it has for past 'hunts.'

As Carlotta would say, "I love it, love it, love it!" This is so well done and has such good music. If you think the Broadway version is great, wait until you see this! Casting is perfect, the little twists in it are perfect. Just one of the best movies in our collection. Our small children love the music too. The sets in the movie are phenomenal, and the extra features/bonus features were also worth the purchase. Very interesting!

This was a great adaptation of a stage musical. The music was fantastic and the sets are just beautiful!

An outstanding film!

I purchased this DVD because of its high recommendation & the fact that I had never seen the stage musical. I was not disappointed!

From the acting & singing, to the story & scenery, this film cannot be topped. I recommend it to anyone that enjoys a romantic story; tinged with a little tragic heartbreak.

There is nothing to dislike about this film.

We went to the musical in NYC with my family. My kids had to see it after that. The music is out of this world, the movie is true to form. My teenager has the songs on her ipods now! Enoough said :)
