I have been a Doughboy collector for a little over a year and this book was somewhat informative it is lacking in ALOT of things. I was very disappointed with it. There are numerous items that did not make it into the book, From reading it knowing that it is the authors collection I would think she would have more of the rare items. There are alot of employee only items that are not present in it, canister sets, many of the stuffed dolls, the telephones, clock radios, etc.. This is a nice item to add to your collection although it would be nice to have a newer updated version with all the rare and hard to find collectibles in it.
This is a nice book to learn about Pillsbury Doughboy collectibles. It includes a lot of the newer Danbury Mint collectibles as well as some of the older collectibles. It has a great section about Doughboy linens from the 90's that are now so hard to find. The pictures are beautiful. It's worth looking at even if you just want to look at the pictures. I find the book very informative. The only con I have with this book is that it did not include enough of the older collectibles such as Uncle Rollie and his Rolls Royce, Cupcake Bear, the early 60's dolls including the rag dolls and the Mattel doll that has a string to pull to hear him actually talk and the cake pans, coffee cups, and placemats from the 70's. I would also like to have seen some of the neat 80's items like the authentic Pillsbury Doughboy light switch cover, Doughboy magnetic hangers, the linens from that era and other neat collectibles such as the first spice rack and the first chalkboard, Doughboy stick-on hangers as well as the first Doughboy telephone and clock radio. Also highly missed from the 80's ceramics are the doughboy potpourri burner and the mold that are neat and rare items. I would love to see a sequel to this book that would include a lot of the early collectibles and other missed items. I have one correction to page 34 regarding the first Pillsbury Doughboy cookie jar. It states that the authentic cookie jar is unmarked from 1973, however the unmarked ones were re-released in the 80's by Pillsbury and the original 1973 cookie jar actually has the date marked on the back on it. I highly recommend that you check out this book if you love the Pillsbury Doughboy!
