This is a great CD filled with some great cover songs as well as some originals. Nine Inch Nails "Hurt" is the popular one on here but there are also some real gems."Bridge over Troubled Water" and "Personal Jesus" are also very inspiring. My favorite is the first track, "The Man Comes Around". It is a brilliant song.
Definitely a must have for any Rock and Country fan.
The lyrics are so deep and I love that. Johnny Cash has a sound like no other and is a very talented musician. The beat to Own Personal Jesus is awesome. There are about 2 songs that I usually skip over, but the remaining are all good. I recommend this for someone who is a "first" at tryingout Johnny Cash.
Amazing peice by an amazing artist. Talk about 'going out with a bang'! Soul searching lyrics with traditional American / Blues / Rock guitar. Very captivating interpretations / covers of past hits by other artists. A definate must have in your CD collection.
I loved this album also,It differs from his earlier albums, very good stuff, but some so sad as he comes to the end of his life.God's gonna cut you down,is one of the best songs on here.
I bought the Johnny Cash CD mainly for one song, "Hurt". However unlike most CD's, after listening to it there are several songs that are really impressive. If you are a Cash fan this is a must for your collection, if not there are still many enjoyable songs on it.
Loved the version of Hurt, so I picked up the album. Most of it is really mellow, and I can't see myself listening to it a lot. I liked the rock covers the best.
American IV is another incredible collection of songs from Johnny Cash and Rick Rubin. I say that because they really have become a team. It seems Rubin just knows how to get the most from Cash at a time where other artists might be shut down completely.
With a great mix of a few Cash originals and carefully selected cover songs, there really are not any bad moments, although including Fiona Apple on "Bridge Over Troubled Water" comes close.
The album opener, "The Man Comes Around", a Cash original, and the traditional "We'll Meet Again" are perfect bookends for the collection with plenty of highlights in between. The success of "Hurt" is well documented because of its incredible video, but it stands tall by itself as a classic that now belongs to Johnny.
The American Recordings series isn't as necessary as owning all his Sun Records output, but it is pretty close.
TOP NOTCH CASH.HURT WILL JUST GROW ON YOU.THE MORE I HEARD IT THE MORE I LIKED IT.I BOUGHT ALOT OF COPIES OF THIS CD THEN SOLD MANY AND GIVEN AWAY EVEN MORE AS GIFTS TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY.
