  My daughter loves this movie...
Review created: 01/03/08

I initially bought this movie because i wanted to increase my 3-year old daughter's Disney movies collection! She only really had 3 so i started searching on ebay. At first i was looking for DVD but they were to expensive and since she has a DVD/VCR combo i figured why not look for VHS... I am so happy i did these movies were completely inexpensive and they were basically new, it is almost as if the previous owners never even watched them! I love watching the Aladdin Trilogy with my daughter and i am so happy i bought them!

  Funny, Excellent Movie!
Review created: 11/10/07

I watched this movie as a kid and now my children are watching it. This is a hilarious movie with LOTS of fun songs and memorable characters.
Robin Williams is hilarious as the Genie.
Scott Weigner. (Steve from Full House) does a wonderful job voicing Aladdin.
This movie was an instant Classic and still is my favorite Disney movie of all time!

I hope my daughter is more discerning than Jasmine...

Okay, I have to say I am a little disappointed by this one. While the animation, songs and celebrity voices are GREAT, I do not believe that the moral- TO BE YOURSELF- is presented in a way that is clearly discernable to children (especially the younger ones) without some help from a parent. Part of the reason for this is that Aladdin goes FAR BEYOND just pretending to be something he isn't- a wealthy prince, rather than a pauper- to impress princess Jasmine. He ends up LYING to her about every aspect of his life, multiple times throughout the film with virtually no consequences. In fact, there were so many lies that it made me wonder HOW Jasmine could still fall in love with him! I think I would like my own daughter to be a little more discerning! I am also somewhat bothered that Aladdin (and his monkey Abu) are portrayed as stealing food at the beginning of the movie, again without consequences. They reason that it is okay to steal the food because you "gotta eat to live, gotta steal to eat." There is even a song about it, as well as a very lively sequence in which they are running away from the "authorities" to avoid punishment. And of course, they do avoid punishment... I don't want my kids to think stealing is okay under ANY circumstances.

Now I don't like overanalyzing Disney. But at the same time I try very hard to teach my children traditional, conservative values. I don't appreciate any film that undermines the basics- stealing and lying are not okay and there are consequences for these actions in the real world-- at least there are when you're 3...

  Aladdin VHS
Review created: 10/11/06

I am an avid collector of disney animated VHS art. Having grown up with Walt Disney, I appreciate his passion of story telling for all ages. VHS are a 'slice' of time, that I still enjoy.

So, now, I am purchasing these animated stories for my grandchildren. To continue Walt's passion and mine!!

Robin Williams Entered A Whole New World in Aladdin
Review created: 09/11/06
by: dragonfire88-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Movies

Pros:
Williams as Genie. Fun, entertaining movie with great songs. Wonderful extras on the DVD.

Cons:
Nothing.

When I was growing up, really the only animated movies that came out were from Disney. In the early 1990's, Disney made a series of musical animated movies, like Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, that went on to become considered some of the best animated movies ever made. Aladdin was another of those movies. In Agrabah, the advisor to the Sultan, Jafar, was plotting how he could get into the Cave of Wonders to get a special lamp. Jafar and his bird Iago learned that only a commoner named Aladdin would be allowed to enter. Aladdin lived in Agrabah with his pet monkey Abu and dreamed of..

Aladdin - A Classic Story that Holds Up Again and Again
Review created: 08/13/06
by: AliventiAsylum-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Movies

Pros:
animation, story, Robin Williams as Genie, songs

Cons:
some scenes might spark nightmares

On a rainy summer afternoon, it s sometimes hard to find something to do. When it seems we ve watched the same films over and over, I can sometimes pull a DVD from the collection which we haven t viewed in some time and sit back and enjoy it as if it s brand new. Such was the case with the Disney animated classic, Aladdin. It begins with the nefarious Jafar securing the last piece of the scarab to enter the Cave of Wonders. However, the cave, with it s rich treasures, can only be entered by a Diamond in the Rough , which the street criminal he has chosen to help him most certainly is not....

ALADDIN: My contribution to the Magic Carpet W/O
Review created: 07/20/02
by: cripper -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Perhaps Robin Williams' best ever acting performance (I'm not kidding here!)

Cons:
Nothing really

Before I begin, I would like to inform you that this review is part of Greatpilgrim's Magic Carpet Writeoff, in which I have to review something that sparks off a child's (well, mine actually as I do not have kids) imagination. I hope you enjoy the review. ************************************************************ When anyone thinks of magic carpets, they always refer to Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, genies in lamps, desert sand, music in the minor key, lots of gold and people with dark skin. Generally, when people think of magic carpets, they usually refer to anything around the Arabian..

Wishing for a Funny Film? Wish Granted!
Review created: 10/06/07
by: carstairs38-- a member of Epinions and Top Reviewer in Movies

Pros:
Funny, romantic story told with beautiful animation

Cons:
A tad slow in the beginning, could become dated fast

In the early 1990's, Disney animation was on a roll with several hits in a row. In the middle of that success came Aladdin. This is a funny, fun film that the entire family will enjoy. Aladdin (voiced by Scott Weinger) is a street rat. Or homeless bum if you prefer. He lives in the city of Agrabah in the shadow of the palace and dreams of the day that his life will be better. Life in the palace isn't as wonderful as he thinks it is, however. Princess Jasmine (Linda Larkin) is being forced to marry a prince. And none of the princes that come by are at all to her like. When Jasmine runs away,...

Here, Laddy! (It's a review... on Aladdin)
Review created: 10/14/04
by: updateghost-- a member of Epinions and Top Reviewer in Movies

Pros:
Songs, voice-overs, vision.

Cons:
None.

There was once a time when animated films were good. Audiences flocked to see them, the end result being that both parent and child walked out of the feature-length cartoon with a smile on their face. So many years later, it just isn't the same. Audiences have come to mostly ignore the animated film, knowing that the chances of it being any good are pretty slim. Disney even announced that Brother Bear was going to be its final all-animation film. What has happened? Why has this tragic period of film come to an end? It is because back in the day, before DVD, Disney used to care about its...
