This recording, the first of many, is classic Aerosmith and demonstrates why the band has its staying power. When somebody says, "Classic Rock", this is the kind of music I think of.

Containing the rock standard, Dream On, this CD would be worth the purchase price if that were the only song on it. Luckily, the remainder of the album lets you get lost in the music and brings you back to an earlier time, one without cell phones, pagers and 24 hour a day news cycles.

The technical level of the recording shows that it was definitely done in a studio, with a recording engineer who was new to stereo, with far too many passages coming out on just one channel.

Despite the over-eager engineering the majority of the CD is a pretty good example of the dynamic range of the CD format, a display that is sadly missing in modern recordings as companies race for dynamic compression in the bid to play it loudest. When the drummer hits the kick drum, you should be able to notice that it went from quiet to loud, and this CD demonstrates that wonderfully.

I most heartily recommend this CD to anybody that wants to experience what Rock can be.

Quick deal, there's something about ripping the protective cover off a new CD. Took be back to my school daze, oh the pain:) Joe Perry is under-rated.

Pros:
No less than six great rock songs.

Cons:
Tyler's voice hasn't matured; too short.

For whatever reason, Aerosmith have long been a personal favorite band of mine. This has not been kind to me, as, whenever I cite them among my favorites, the band's abundant power-ballad repertoire comes to mind, and ridicule ensues. Of course, I'm one of a smattering of Aerosmith fans that happens to actually LIKE the stuff they did post-'85 (the year of the colossally substandard Done With Mirrors), but they had a substantial output of 70s-era rock during that drug-addled decade. Most of the 'classics'---"Walk This Way," "Sweet Emotion," "Back In The Saddle" and the like---were from mid-70.

Pros:
Steven Tyler and the boys offer some early classics with their debut.

Cons:
Some flawed production and a couple of so-so tracks.

INTRODUCTION Hello, everybody. This is John Bishop typing, the DeadMilkboy of Epinions.com. Before I launch into the following review, I d like to mention that this is part of a series of reviews I m writing based on one of the greatest American rock n roll bands in history, AEROSMITH! I d like to thank Aerocat (another Arizona native, bless her soul) for giving me the chance to do something other than write reviews of classic B-movies and current CD/DVD releases, and besides AEROSMITH F*CKING ROCKS! Posted here is the URL to Aerocat s official Epinions.com Aerosmith Write-Off page, and a...

  From delinquents to legends

Pros:
Great debut by legendary rockers.

Cons:
A bit derivative, but that wouldn't last long.

You know, if I had a nickel for every time a music critic was wrong about a certain band or musical trend, I'd be rolling in the dough right now. When I say critics, I'm not talking about the good folks at Epinions who write honest, detailed reviews that help people decide for themselves what music to buy. I'm talking about the over-paid so-called journalists who tell you almost nothing about the music, but seem to be trying to influence you about what's hip and relevant. Well back in 1973, those same critics had written Aerosmith off as a Rolling Stones rip-off that would never amount to...

Pros:
It's history, man.

Cons:
Tyler's voice and the guitars just sound so different

Edited 3-21-00 This is the album that started it all. It was initially ignored by the public because it was very difficult in 1973 to make a breakthrough on radio. Aerosmith paid their dues on the road, however. It was their rigorous touring that eventually won them their legions of fans. This first album contains eight songs of pure rock and roll. It is a simple, straightforward record. Although the songs are good, the band s personality isn t heard. It s obvious that they were young and uncomfortable in the studio. This album does have a bit of a live feel, which keeps the album from being..

  Aerosmith's debut album
Review created: 03/20/01
by: FlyBear -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Effectively captured the early sound of Aerosmith

Cons:
Production values are lacking

Aerosmith's journey to the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame began not in Boston, but in the tiny hamlet of Sunapee, New Hampshire, where the parents of Steven Tallarico (aka Steven Tyler) owned a small resort called Trow-Rico. The band first took shape one summer in Sunapee. It was in Boston, however, that they started to pay their dues as a band. The members of the band moved in together to a tiny apartment at 1325 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. Several of the songs that appeared on their self-titled debut album on Columbia Records (released, incidentally, on the same day that Columbia released...
