Across the Universe (2008, Blu-ray Disc)

I love this movie. It elicits so many emotions and includes some great Beatles songs. I've watched it four times since it has been released and I can watch it over and over.

The movie was well crafted and well choreographed. I was surprised how the director & writer were able to make the plot of the movie work well with the songs. Having grown up in the 60's it brought back a lot of memories, so good, some bad, but all the memories were welcome. The only downside to the movie was Bono's cameo in "I Am the Walrus" during this sequence the director lost track of the story line and, in my opinion, got way off course with the plot of the movie. And Bono's performance left a lot to be desired. Overall the movie was enjoyable and I would recommend it.

I love this movie because its a musical that I enjoy. I love the Beatles and this movie ties some of the best Beatles songs into one great movie. I bought it because I saw it on DVD and knew I had to own it. 5 Stars for me. Must-buy for any Beatles lover.

I love this movie. Very intriguing. My attention was kept with no problem throughout the entire movie. And of course, being all Beatles' songs, there couldn't have been any better songs to sing.

This movie was done perfect. The music, lyrics and story line are done in a way that flows and keeps the audience interested for more. I think I have a new favorite movie.

Anyone who enjoys the Beatles will enjoy this movie. Good music sung by talented singers.The story line was imaginative. I think you will want to watch this one more than once.

Blu-Ray edition is absolutely amazing...a great movie with even better picture and sound than before.
The movie is very accurate, they use the Beatles' songs that were more innocent (early 60s), with the characters in the movie acting in the same way.
Later, the songs become protest songs and the movie moves that way, a time of turmoil, drugs and confusion (late 60s, early 70s). The movie ends with the gratifying closer "All You Need Is Love" summing up the movie entirely.

This was a great movie. I went into expecting nothing and was knocked of my feet.The music was great. Colors brilliant. I really enjoyed the movie.
It is one I will enjoy watching again and again.

I am still on the fence about the film per se, but them two guys credited for the original songs... what are their names, Lennon & McCartney?... they might have a future in this biz...

JUST KIDDING!!! Seriously though, I am the Beatles purist, and for me about half of the numbers did not work, but about seven or so (surprisingly!) did. Strawberry Fields was the high point of the movie, Mr. Kite the low. The video transfer is fantastic. Audio is just a little too gimmicky (too surround), I liked it better when running things through the high-end 2-channel setup.

Note a very subtle (background, instrumental) A Day in the Life interpretation late in the film, when the protagonist reads the daily newspaper. Cute.

The purist that I've talk to were not overly impressed. I love this movie. The cast is incredible and the story amazing. Sturgis was born to sing McCartney/Lennon. I purchased the DVD and upgraded to the blu ray. No regrets there is a stark difference between the two. A must for music lovers but from what I'm told not so much for the die hard Beatles fan.

This movie was very surprising. it was an awesome movie with a great selection of beatles music. i love how they chose certain songs to go with there story and it looks as if the writers and directors were clear on what they wanted. excelent movie. A++++++++++++++

I bought this Blueray DVD after seeing the movie on a regular DVD and enjoying it. The quality is exceptional on Blueray, the music is great and I also found the actors who sing their own songs to be quite exceptional. The movie is a little long because many of the songs tempo's have been slowed down from their original versions so be prepred to sit for almost 3 hours or watch it in two sittings. I was a teenager in the 60's so it was sort of like watching a musical version of Forest Gump except focusing on the Vietnam War protests. Very well done!!!

I thought it was strange at first...But then I saw the genius in this movie as I started to analyze even the smallest of details!!! The way the took Beatle songs and wrote a play around the lyrics was nothing short of brilliant!!! I am not the biggest Beatles fan in the world but I loved this movie!!! It is different than anything else I have ever seen!!! I can't wait to see it a second time!

Excellent movie, will be extremely well-recieved by Beatles fans everywhere. I liked the fact that the actors aren't well known, they are all very talented and this was a great opportunity for them to showcase their fantastic acting ability and powerful singing voices. This film took my mind away to a time of hope and turmoil, uncertainty and a battle to let freedom reign. Regrettably, my bf didn't like it because he felt there was too much singing. In my opinion, there was a comfortable balance between singing performances and dialogue/storeyline. I didn't feel it was like your typical "theatrical musical" movie by any stretch. Put on your wedge heels and stick a flower in your hair, this film will take you on a trip to a time past but never forgotten.

What more could you ask of a musical? All the Beatles music is woven, perhaps even reborn out of the mouths of these ultra talented cast members it a stunning visual story. There are moments that take your breath away and bring up such visceral reactions. Director Julie Taymor is a national treasure. A true artist compared to the Michael Bay hacks!

If you love the Beatles you'll love the music. If you hate the Beatles you'll love the music. Every song feels intrinsically tied to the story as if they didn't exist before this movie. If you know the songs as well as I do it only adds to your pleasure as you watch how the lyrics paired to powerful imagery.

Just see it. Love it. Watch it again when you're sick on the couch. You'll be transformed.

I wanted this movie on bluray, because it is a remarkable peice of work, songs and plot all perfect. What i never would have guessed, was that i would never receive the movie. $37.99, and paypal cant make a decision even though the seller has not answered 1 single email. I think people would be better off using Amazon.

I was particularly happy that Julie had a vision that played on the strengths of the music without trying to compete with the music. She did a great weaving the story with the music and the struggle in the Sixties.

wonderful modern rock opera to the beatles. wonderful film about struggle of the times and the music.

I just got this musical yesterday.I had some mixed feelings about it at first.It really wasn't quite what I expected.Once I got past the expectation of Beatle songs not sounding like the Beatles themselves,I really loved it.(I'm very leary of other artists doing Beatle songs)When I first heard "I wanna Hold Your Hand" It did bring a tear to my eye.It's such a great love song,but fans are used to hearing it as a rock & roll number.Most of the songs are done with the general feel of the song as it was intended when it was composed.The characters in this film are named after characters in Beatle songs.Jude,Lucy,Sadie,Prudence and so on.There are some cameo appearances from Joe Cocker,Bono and Selma Hayek.But the rest on the actors are unknowns.
This is an amazing film for young adults (and us older fans) who haven't been exposed to the Beatles.(a fault of their parents)And this BLOWS that other so called musical(piece of junk) right out of the water.
As I type this,my grandaughter (4) is in the other room listening to The Beatles 1 cd and already singing bits of the songs.

The reworking of the Beatles songs play perfectly with the story of this movie. The whole movie is very vibrant and colorful with a great story line and great characters. The remakes of these songs are done well and I can't wait to watch this movie on Blu-Ray.
