I love this book, but I love all of Kim Harrison's books. Her books keep you on the edge of your seat and it is hard to put down until you have it finished.

INCREDIBLY IMAGINATIVE WILL ENCHANT YOU FROM PAGE 1
Review created: 08/28/07

I WASN'T SURE WHAT TO THINK WHEN I STARTED THE FIRST BOOK IN THE SERIES. IT STRUCK ME AS A LITTLE ODD. THE CHARACTERS WERE INTRIGUING, AND IT STARTED TO DRAW ME IN. IT ISN'T ONE OF THOSE HOKEY ROMANCE NOVELS, DISGUISED AS A FANTASY. THE BOOK INVOLVES A FASCINATING CHARACTER AND HER DAY TO DAY LIFE ISSUES; THAT DEAL WITH A FUTURISTIC WORLD AND PROBLEMS YOU NEVER DREAMED COULD HAPPEN. THEY ARE BRILLIANTLY WRITTEN, SO THAT THEY SEEM NORMAL FOR THE TIME PERIOD; EVERYDAY ISSUES THAT ONE WOULD FACE , GIVEN THE TIME AND PLACE. THEY ARE NOT OVERDRAWN OR TOO UNBELIEVABLE. WE DISCOVER THAT THE NOT SO DISTANT FUTURE BRINGS A PLAGUE THAT WIPES OUT HALF OF HUMANITY; AND THE NIGHTLY CREATURES ARE BASICLY PUSHED OUT OF THE CLOSET. EVERYTHING WE WERE TOLD ABOUT IN MOST FAIRY TALES DO EXIST. WEREWOLVES, VAMPIRES, ELVES, WITCHES ETC. THEY HAVE BEEN CAMOFLAUGE IN SOCIETY FOR YEARS, BUT HAVE KEPT QUIET. THE HUMAN RACE HAS LEARNED TO ACCEPT THEM AS EQUALS; AND SEES THAT MOST AREN'T THE HORRIBLE MONSTERS WE HAVE BEEN TAUGHT TO FEAR. SO, FOR RACHEL, IT'S JUST EVERYDAY AND THE THINGS SHE HAS TO FACE. A VAMPIRE ROOMMATE, WITH A CRUSH DIRECTED AT HER.A BOUNTY HUNTER STYLE JOB. A FRIEND AND PARTNER, WHOM IS A PIXIE AND A FATHER OF 54. IT ALL SOUNDS STRANGE, BUT COMES TOGETHER QUITE WELL; AS ONE OF THE BEST FANTASY SERIES I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS. IF YOU LOVE CHARLAINE HARRIS' SOOKIE OR MARY JANICE DAVIDSON'S BETSY; YOU ARE SURE TO ENJOY RACHEL MORGAN, WITCH, RUNNER (BOUNTY HUNTER),HARDLY MANY CHARACTERS ARE AS ENJOYABLE AND INTRIGUING! BUT DO START WITH THE FIRST IN THE SERIES. ABSOLUTELY ENJOYABLE!EDGE

Very enjoyable book. I loved the whole island segment with the weres and Jenks is back in this book. In my humble opinion Harrison does an awesome job with creating interesting characters. I can't wait to read the next book.

  TOTAL URBAN FANTASY
Review created: 07/19/07

I have to be honest and say that I don't remember exactly what happened in this particular book. However, I have read the entire series so far and every single book is excellent! I LOVE them all - they are definitely books you can read over and over. There is all kinds of tension in each book from sexual to fearful. I love the background of the "Tomato disaster" which adds humor to all of the books. Plus there is quite a variety of fantasy characters included: witches, warlocks, pixies, faeries, elves, were-creatures, and vampires. I love her descriptions of how society combines all races. I love her struggle to do the right thing while not tainting her soul or hurting her loved ones. I admire her character ... faults and all. Read this ... you won't be disappointed!

I like the series, and have been an avid reader of the genre since Anita Blake. This one is just as entertaining as the other, if not moreso. IT also more deeply explores Ivy, and the issues she has being around Rachel. Good to se JAx back too. Good read. Very much recommended.

Really enjoyed the book! Couldn't wait to get it after complteing the first three (Dead Witch Walking, The Good The Bad And The Undead, and Every Witch Way But Dead). I have to say I liked the earlier story lines with Trent. That pixy sure was hot though.;)

  Rachel Goes Outside the Hollows
Review created: 07/15/06

I loved this book! I agree with the other reviewer that this was the best yet. I was a bit worried that this was going to be a transition book--because every series has one or two--and not be as good but it was spot on! One of my favorite parts honestly was one, Jenks came back and two, the fact that Rachel branches out a little goes outside of Cincinatti and the Hollows! Kim Harrison is a strong author and keeps turning out fantastic books. I can't wait until I read the next one!!!

  The best one yet!!

Rachel and company are back again to fight evin in the Hollows. This book, in my opinion is the best yet! There's alot of interaction with Jenks(second favorite character) and it shows Nick's true colors.(jerk!) The only thing I didn't like is the more sensual interaction between Rachel and Ivy. I know everyone else wants to see them together, but I'd like to see her find a nice witch boy and settle down.(*g* can you tell I'm a mom?) I hope the author continues writing these novals and doesn't do what Hammelton did with the Anita Blake serise and turn it into glorified porn. Anyway, great book!

I loved Jenks in this one and we learn a wee bit more about Ms. Mysterious Ivy. Racheal can be irritating second guessing herself sometimes but she is nothing like Ms pleaseworshipmeIamAnitaBlakesohornyallthetime. So it is great.
Looking foward to the next one.
