  A Bronx Tale

This VHS tape was purchased as a Christmas present.I'm very pleased with the condition of this product especially since it is a previously viewed tape. The movie itself is one of my all time favorites as it depicts a great time in my childhood. It makes me think back to those days and my own memories of what I was doing then. Although I didn't grow up in the Bronx, it reminded me of my old neighborhood and those I grew up with. DeNiro & Palminteri are fantastic in their roles; very believable portrayals. I highly recommend this to any fan of either of these actors.

I've bought the original VHS just as part of a "collection" of the most rappresentative things of this part of my life, as for example Black Boy, by Richard Wright.
A Bronx tale is, I think, my best movie: I've seen it about 5 times.
I don't know why but I love this film: nothing which concerns the actors or the fact that it's about italian people, as me . Just fallel in love with this film, with its history, actors, places, songs.
I love it, maybe 'couse I'd like to live in that period and in America.
There're important meanings in this films, of course, as:
Don't waste your talent.

  Lessons On Love And Fear
Review created: 09/24/03

Pros:
Excellent acting and soundtrack

Cons:
Narration, Too many story lines

Set in a rough and tumble Bronx neighborhood in the 1960's, the bittersweet coming of age vs gangster film A Bronx Tale, marked the directorial debut of acclaimed actor Robert De Niro. The film is based on a one-character off- Broadway play by Chazz Palminteri, who also stars in the film. De Niro makes excellent use of the 1960's Bronx culture, with generous use of the popular doo wop music of the time period, and references to the then flourishing Yankees dynasty. However, in this stylish, multi-layered film, the themes that stand out most prominently are the blatant Mafia influence, and...

Shades of Gray: A Review of A Bronx Tale
Review created: 05/01/01

Pros:
great story, great acting by Robert DeNiro, Chazz Palminteri, & Lillo Brancato

Cons:
strong language and violence

The first time I saw the movie A Bronx Tale was after hearing an interview on the radio with Chazz Palminteri. I had never heard of him before, but hearing him discuss this movie, and the characters who are all based on people he knew growing up, I felt I had to see it. The movie is an excellent story of the relationship between a neighborhood mobster, Sonny (portrayed by Palminteri) and Calogero - or "C" (portrayed at a young age by Francis Capra and in his mid-teens by Lillo Brancato). Robert DeNiro portrays C's father, Lorenzo, a bus driver who's route enables him to keep an eye on his son.

A Real Bronx Tale ala Chazz Palminteri

by: Freak369 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Great realistic mafia movie, based on real events.

Cons:
Story can drag at times

A Bronx Tale I remember the first time I saw Bronx Tale, I was on my way out of a party when I heard the opening line on warm summer night you could hear the young men romancing their women . Needless to say, I was hooked. This movie is a staple in the genre of mafia films but set on the common mans level. The movie was set in the 60 s and capitalizes on the racial tensions between the white and black population of a small suburb of New York City. Bronx Tale follows the life of Calogero (also spelled as Calogeno) as he is forced to make a decision between following the law and making his...

Pros:
Acting, Soundtrack, Direction, Surprising moral plot twist

Cons:
Unnecessary side plots

The nastiest writer on Epinions is once again spreading out his infinite lengths and stepping back into the realm of gangster movies yet again. When you think of these types of films, one unknowledgeable individual might presume that you get the same formula for every flick you watch. Length narrations, overweight mob bosses, dark rooms, and heavy Tony Bennett records drowning in the background. Shame on you. It is now my privilege, nay my pleasure to introduce the universe to the mobster flick stereotype killer A Bronx Tale. I know what your one burning question to me is Hey-hey Nasty what...

Lorenzo vs. Sonny / Love vs. Fear
Review created: 02/02/04
by: anae428 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
DeNiro uses unfamiliar actors to make this movie seem as real as possible

Cons:
story so detailed/you may miss a big part of the movie if you blink!

As a young adult myself (age 20), A Bronx Tale presented me with a very critical moment in a young adult s life, the process of decision making. Most dramatically shown in this movie, Calogero, a nine year old boy, grows up confused and inquisitive, just like people my age and other ages normally face in their lives. His confusions involve money, love, and to distinguish whether it is better to be loved or to be feared. This love or fear is represented by two main characters, Sonny, who is feared, and Lorenzo (Calogero s father) who is loved. Calogero has a difficult time choosing between his.
