  Really great Romantic comedy

50 First Dates is a Romantic Comedy at it's best. Sandler does a very good job in this charming film!!

I wasn't that pumped to watch this movie but when I did I really enjoyed it. Sandler and Barrymoore have great on screen chemistry and the movie itself is really well scripted and features a great supporting cast.

I'm not a huge Sandler fan but this was one of my favorite Sandler films.

Final Verdict:

4/5

Rent or Buy?: Romantic comedy fans and Sandler fans must buy.

If you need a laugh-then watch this movie!
Review created: 04/10/08

Well, this is a must see romantic-comedy. Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymorre together can make anyone pee their pants. Every time I watch this movie, I see some dumb humor that I missed the previous time. If you need a laugh then watch this movie.

  An OK Chick Flick
Review created: 12/05/07

It was nice to see Adam Sandler in a role that was not goofy or laced with profanity. Overall, a good movie except for the scenes with Rob Schneider, Those were of the usual sophomoric behaviuor of Rob and Adam. Fortunately those only lasted about 7 minutes for the whole film. It was nice nice film That it enjoyable to see several times.

Review created: 06/09/07

I like the movie very much because it's a comedy and the actor(ess)'s in it are excellent at their parts. I just don't like the dvd I got because my seller didn't notify me that's scrated and skips in some areas. So I'm a bit disappointed there. But all in all I still like the movie itself!

I love Drew Barrymore, but when I saw the previews on TV, I wasn't dying to see this. I saw it on DVD, and I'm glad I did! This is a great movie full of charm and humor! One thing I hate in some movies is their propencity to use certain swear words. I was happily surprised to hear none (except when they played a certain game whose title is a slight cuss word). You'll probably really like this movie!

This is one of my favorite Adam Sandler movies. This one makes me laugh every time I watch it, it never gets old.

It takes place in Hawaii, Adam Sandler's character (Henry) meets Drew Barrymore's character (Lucy) at a local diner. He falls for her, but there's one problem. She can't remember him because she has short term memory loss. So every day he tries to make her fall in love with him.

The other cast is great as well. Sean Astin (Lord of The Rings) and Rob Schneider (The Hot Chick) are also in this movie. Both are hilarious.

If you're a fan of any of these actors you should definitely watch this movie.

  Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore
Review created: 08/29/06

This movie stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Drew Barrymore has a conditon that she only remembers things for 24 hours. Adam Sandler spends the whole movie trying to help her remember things and falls for her. This movie is full of laughs. You will not be dissappointed watching this one.

Drew and Adam strike again! Another romantic comedy, almost cheesy, but well worth the money. Some scenes contain very adult subject matter so watch out for the younger audiences, although for the very young the innuendos will go over their heads. Great for an all women's "girlie" night! If you need a feel good, chuckle, love being in love kind of movie...this is it!

  Not Your Average Sandler
Review created: 04/23/06

Sandler tries a new kind of comedy, one that makes you think a little harder. I enjoyed this movie because Sandler wasn't acting like a jackass all the time. He falls in love with a woman who has a disability and has to figure out a way to overcome the problem so that they can live a semi-normal life together. It was a wonderful way of showing love can prevail even through what appear to be unbeatable odds.

Is there any way I could just forget this movie?

I'm a fan of Adam Sandler. Am I a huge fan? No. But I do like his humor and I've been a fan of most of his movies. Mostly, I just like it when he flies off the handle and screams. It's funny to me in a very baseless, kindergarten way. But at least I like it.

Drew Barrymore on the other hand...well, I haven't liked her in a movie since the last one she did with Sandler. Which might be why they decided to team up again.

Sandler (I forget his name in the movie) is a guy that likes to love `em and leave `em. He meets the tourists, bangs them, gives them some hokey lie about who he is - and he's on to the next one. And this seems to be working for him. He's got some weird friends and an odd job as a marine mammal veterinarian (is there such a thing?) - but he seems happy. Hey, he's living in Hawaii. Who wouldn't be happy?

But all of that seems to change, strangely, when he meets Drew Barrymore in a coffee shop and endearingly helps her make a waffle hut. They hit it off - sparks fly - and our boy is changed forever. Or so he thinks.

When he goes back to the coffee shop the next day to continue where they left off - she doesn't remember him and blows him off. Why? Well, Drew has some sort of mental "condition" where she's lost all short term memory and lives the same day over and over again (Bill Murray would be proud). Sandler, vexed by this woman he is falling for, decides to do his best to get her to notice him all over again and again and again.

While the premise has a bit of promise, the comedy is sorely lacking. There are but a few jokes in the whole thing. Sandler and Barrymore's romance is very cookie cutter for a somewhat original premise. And the worst thing is that Sandler's character learns his "womanizing lesson" about a third of the way through the film - which isn't really a good idea - since every movie is a journey of discovery for it's main characters. Once the journey ends - the movie usually does too. But not here. It just keeps going and going. And while you may have hope that Barrymore's clueless character might learn something - she never does.

The real stinker here is the ending that is so inexplicable, I nearly laughed out loud - but not in a good way.

There are a few bright spots in the movie, however. Rob Schneider is very funny as the perverted, clueless, henpecked surfer with too many kids. Sean Astin also has a nice turn as the roided up idiot brother of Barrymore. Actually, it's just good to see him no longer a fat hobbit. I was starting to ask, "Who ate the kid from The Goonies?" The scenery is beautiful and the soundtrack is nifty, with modern artists covering 80's hits.

The DVD boasts commentary from Barrymore and the director, some trailers, deleted scenes with optional commentary, a "making of", some music videos from the soundtrack, a gag reel, a Talkin' Pidgin featurette, and the Comedy Central special. Not bad. Buy it if you just love Sandler or Barrymore. Rent it if your just interested.

50 First Dates Is Way Better Than I Had Anticipated...
Review created: 02/25/04
by: drdevience -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Rob Schneider

Cons:
One idiotic German gender bender stereotype that was over the top even for me.

Sometimes you just need a light-hearted romp that isn't going to make you think too hard. Such was the case today after coming out of Mel Gibson's heavy movie The Passion of the Christ. I wanted a comedy to lighten the mood. 50 First Dates fit that bill nicely. Henry Roth (Adam Sandler) is a Marina Vet and part time womanizer. He likes dating tourist chicks because they eventually leave... and it allows him to pretend to be someone else, like a government agent. heh. Lucy Whitmore (Drew Barrymore) is a cute little gal who was in a car accident and loses her ability to store short term memory..

Pros:
An occasional chuckle or two; An occasional sensitive moment

Cons:
Scenes repeated over and over again; The constant references to Spam

Adam Sandler can always be counted on to appear in at least one theatrical release each year. His movies are mostly comedies, but for his film release in the late winter of 2004, he has been cast in a film that combines comedy with some dramatic moments as well. The movie is called 50 First Dates, a romantic comedy- drama starring Sandler with Drew Barrymore as his love interest. Movie Facts: Rating: PG-13 Format: Color Director: Peter Segal Theatre Release Date: February 13, 2004 Movie Length: 99 Minutes Cast: Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, Rob Schneider, Sean Astin, Dan Aykroyd, Lusia Strus,.

The Hollywood Memory Complex continues with 50 First Dates
Review created: 02/13/04
by: flamepillar -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Adam and Drew are a match made in Heaven.

Cons:
Some really awful remakes of good songs.

Memory loss is getting to be a hot topic in Hollywood these days. I mean, you'd think they would've caught on to it three years ago when Memento first hit the screens. But then, one might assume that they figured "Well there's no way we're competing with THAT anyway, so just give everybody time to see it and then slowly work it into the mainstream again." It's no surprise that one of the forerunners in this alleged Hollywood Memory Complex would be Ben Affleck, a generally well-liked actor among all moviegoers who aren't critics. Paycheck was a nice demonstration of the concept, but...

50 First Dates - Memory Loss Shmemory Loss
Review created: 02/15/04
by: Rock_On -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Adam Sandler picks up his feet, very funny, nice story, Drew Barrymore (yummy)

Cons:
memory loss sucks

Adam Sandler hasn t had a REALLY good movie in quite some time. Anger Management was very disappointing, Eight Crazy Nights was pretty much stupid, and the last one that really hit home was Big Daddy. Mr. Deeds was good, but I don t think that it was quite as good as Big Daddy was (and then there s the classics Billy Madison and Waterboy). The previews for 50 First Dates looked extremely good, and the best thing about its release was that it was coming out Valentine s weekend, making it the perfect movie to take your date on Valentine s Day (which was a Saturday, Valentine s Day 2004). So, as.

50 First Dates - and the movie never even gets to first base
Review created: 07/30/04
by: CyndiA -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Barrymore was solid.

Cons:
Sandler. Dumb jokes. Spam.

The idea is cute, but 50 First Dates misses the mark from start to finish. First, Henry is a playboy. Nothing new about that for an opening especially for a romantic comedy. The problem is that Adam Sandler as Henry is just not good casting. Really, take a look at this guy. He looks like a Ken doll minus the muscles but definitely with the painted on hair. In this movie where he tries to look sensitive and caring, he comes off looking like PeeWee Herman. There is no way that he is the hot stud with all the visiting hotties on the island sleeping with him and then wanting to keep in touch. He..
