This Fourplay CD marks the departure of Lee Ritenour and the addition of Larry Carlton. While I love Carlton's body of work and being VERY happy he survived his "tragic episode", I prefer Ritenour's Jazz style over Carlton's. I thought Fourplay would lose its edge without Ritenour. Boy, was I wrong. Carlton is just as smooth in many ways. After hearing Carlton's "Renegade Gentleman" and HATING IT (with two snaps up and a back snap) I didn't think he could fill the Jazz luster needed with this band. Fourplay in the car, the bedroom, the lounge. Yes!! and no one's going to get hurt. From my first hearing of this California-based group and Bali Run, I was hooked. I've had my "Fourplay" Between The Sheets, The Best Of...and now 4. I'm hooked. As a smooth jazz, new adult contemporary broadcaster in Sydney, Australia, I get to hear a lot of the so-called masters of this genre, but only one Fourplay.
