Beatles Red Album (2 CD's)
Review created: 08/14/07
by:

I have the Beatles blue album and wanted their red album to complete the set.
This album was offered at a very attractive opening bid and shipping charges were very reasonable. Per the seller's note that CD was in excellent condition, decided to bid and was successful. Turn around time was very reasonable as USPS did their job. This 2 set CD played and sounded brand new. Would certainly buy from this seller again.

Helped complete the singles the Beatles recorded but are not on an album/CD.
Much cheaper than even our favorite local music store.
Seller seemed to have a good reputation as was proven by the purchase.
Also, prefer buying from within the USA.

I have finally replaced the old vynal records with the CD version of this classic collection of Beatle songs, this, and the blue album are a marvelous sampling of the Beatle's tremendous body of work. This CD should turn anybody curious about the Beatle's legend into a certified Beatle fan as it did me thirty something years ago.

 THE BEATLES 1962-66
Review created: 10/18/06(updated 05/21/08)
by:

In 1973 when television advertisements for a so-called Alpha-Omega "greatest hits" four album packaged set for the Beatles was shown on the TV air waves, Apple Records was pressed to come out with a Beatles "greatest hits" package of their own and forced the advertisements for this boot legging "greatest hits" ad off television.
The first of these packaged albums that Apple released was called: THE BEATLES 1962-66 and this album over the years has been dubbed by Beatles fans as the "red album".
With an outstanding lists of tracks covering the Beatles early in their careers with the "mop-top" hair styles to the fun and comedy of motion pictures A HARD DAYS NIGHT and HELP!
The hectic touring years of the Fab Four that forced them into the studio years after 1966......!
The musical direction that the Beatles were taking, is in this greatest hits package and covers those musical achievements of ballads such as MICHELLE to PAPERBACK WRITER.
The No.1 hits of the twenty No.1 overall singles the Beatles had with I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND right on to the double sided hits WE CAN WORK IT OUT and DRIVE MY CAR are all featured!
The outstanding album cuts IN MY LIFE from Rubber Soul and ELEANOR RIGBY from Revolver, was the type of music like this that paved the way and set the Beatles in a musical catagories all their own.
Nothing in the way of any other band in the history of Pop Music or Rock n Roll will ever see the likes of the Beatles again. This "greatest hits" package has and covers IT ALL!!!

1962-1966 (Red Album) - The Beatles

The Red Album CD set is a great set to have for the person who doesn't have the Beatles in their collection and this goes for the Blue set of later tunes by the Beatles. I'm speaking of the US versions. What the buyer must look out for is many sellers are passing these off as the US retail versions by using the bar code info and pricing! So buyer be aware before purchasing as you maybe buying the Russian Federation copies. Also the sellers will just state the title you are buying by not stating the origin so to say nothing really makes you think your getting an authentic copy as most of us would expect to get. Reason I bring this up is there is a big difference in sound quality between the two countries mastering sources.
Very imporatnt some of the Beatles Russian releases have been recorded directly off a clean LP, not all titles come from this source, but listen close as you can hear the needle going through the grooves!
I can make this point for certain as I've purchased a few Beatles titles that have the needle recorded CDs (Let It Be and Abbey Road) I can't tell you the label as it will be easy for them to say, not us, but the proof is using your ear drums! Russian versions I give an average rating, US editions I give a good rating and the Japanese versions I rare a 5 out of a 5!

Love all these Beatles oldies. In fact I prefer this to the Blue Album, although I have that one as well. Classic songs that are loved by all generations - you just can't go wrong.

 as good as 1967-1970...........................

Most people know how great The Beatles are. Therefore, I should only have to say, "it's The Beatles; need I say more?". Since I'm a nice guy, I'll detail it anyway...
"1962-1966" is a great compilation two-disc album for any Beatles fan. This is the set that shows how this musical phenomenon started. It was released three years after their break-up, a time that society still awaited anxiously for their reunion. Fans had never seen a greatest hits compilation from them before this. Still devoted to them, many rushed for this album. These songs continue to inspire a generation of musicians that have come after them, including The Bangles, Sheryl Crow, Def Leppard, and many more. Therefore, it was more than just their good looks and their bopping heads that made them a wonderful band.

This set explores John, Paul, George, and Ringo through their first two years of fame in the US. When the British Invasion began in 1964, a new musical revolution began. Their long-lasting impact was the least expected. The Beatles were the first of many British acts (The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Dusty Springfield, etc.) to conquer the US during this time with their first smash it single "I Want To Hold Your Hand". Then, their performance on "The Ed Sullavin Show" that year made music history again. Over 70 million people watched them perform five songs that night. All five of those became smash hits. Their impact, aside the screaming fans, proved that they came to stay.

Before their debut, only doo-wop and rock & roll captured the airways, namely by Elvis Presley. It seemed like society was looking for something new. No other act performed in that style of rock before 1964, including the more accented guitar and the absense of a piano/ keyboard. This gave new meaning to rock music. Their great vocal harmonies gave an added spice for listening pleasure. The lyrics gave these love songs the extra catchiness. Most of these songs were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. They later became one of the greatest songwriting duos. Through the years, The Beatles's style wonderfully evolved while continuing to make music history.

Those wanting to observe more of their evolution should also buy "1967-1970", which explores lyrics about peace, love, drugs, and anti-war. "1962-1966" is a great album for any Beatles fan to own as it'll continue pleasing listeners for a long time......................

Pros:
Brilliant Beatles Songs

Cons:
Soulless sanitized anthology

There are places I remember, All my life though some have changed, Some forever not for better, Some have gone and some remain... * * * The Beatles Retrospective 1962-1966 (The Red Album) is an anthology of Beatles music which includes their hit singles, and selected tracks from their first seven albums and three movies. (Yellow Submarine was on the US release of Revolver, although the Yellow Submarine movie and album would not be released until later.) This period covers the most significant period in my life. In the spring of 1962, I was a chubby, short, bespectacled 12-year-old living in..

Pros:
Hey, it's the Fab Four....

Cons:
Surely you don't expect any cons, do you?

In my life, I love you more... -- John Lennon, In My Life I became a Beatles' fan rather late in life, relatively speaking, in part because my taste in music tends to veer to the classical/orchestral film score end rather than rock. The fact that I was less than a year old when the Fab Four made their American TV debut in February 1964 and that I lived in South America from 1967 till 1972 also explains why I wasn't really exposed to The Beatles' music until the 1980s, by which time the group had split and John Lennon had been taken away by a madman's bullet. My fascination with the "lads...

Good collection of early tunes from the greatest band in rock history
Review created: 06/03/01
by: HawgWyld -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
It's the Beatles, man!

Cons:
Not enough stuff from Revolver.

Whenever writing about a Beatles album, I usually think it would be sufficient just to list the tracks on the disc and let it go at that. After all, I'd wager that most folks out there have a passing familiarity with the Beatles, and are at least familiar with the songs on this particular compilation. This album is little more than a greatest hits album, and the songs here are as ingrained in popular American culture as the New York Yankees, Ford Motor Company and Budweiser. One thing that's always been amazing about the Beatles is how well that band's music holds up as the years roll past....

 Four Young Lads From Liverpool
Review created: 06/20/01
by: andaryl -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
26 great tracks that made them so famous

Cons:
Only 63 minutes, plenty of room for more Revolver

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a review on The Beatles 1967-70 (Blue Album) compilation basically recommending that this was the best starting point for those new to the band. I also persuaded people not to buy the One album for the obvious reason that it only included the number one hits, which I think was 27 tracks in total. As you will no doubt be aware, a band s best records are not necessarily those that make the top of the charts. With almost double the material, covering all The Beatles single releases, the two previous compilations are much better value and certainly more insightful....

Pros:
Excellent album

Cons:
They dont sing nomore

Ok , so I will admit it, when I first heard this album, I was only 5, and I knew nothing about rock music, so I thought The Beatles were the latest....and this was like in 1977, 7 years after they had retired. But, the thing about The Beatles, is that , once you hear them, their music stays in your heart forever. I mean, ok, I went thru the times where Duran Duran, Boy George and Madonna had the coolest music out there, and I still listened to The Beatles all the time.Nowadays, the same phenomenom is repeating itself, as my 16 year old sister listens to The Backstreet Boys and NSYNC, and she..
