Staind is the best band in the world!!! One of my favorite albums I have it's a great mix of slow and hard songs with great lyrics as always from Aaron Lewis with great anger like in Yesturday to more soft songs such as Fill Me Up and Zoey Jane.

  The Softer Side of Staind

This album is almost as good as their previous effort ("Break The Cycle"- read my review on that one), but it seems to lack some of the hard-hitting instrumentation that I grew to love on that CD. Now, this CD still has some harder songs, but they are farther and fewer in between in comparison. And not that the slow songs are bad, it's just that I was expecting something else. There are the obvious radio cuts yet again, and they are fairly indicative of the rest of the CD. I would say that if you are a fan of Staind from the radio, then this is a good CD to buy to start getting into them.

14 Shades of Grey: Uncertain, thoughtful, but almost brilliant
Review created: 10/14/05
by: blackstar40-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Music

Pros:
Flowingly human reflection in it s shining ruggedness

Cons:
The whims concerning family members and the final track

Staind positively clogged the airways in 2001 with It s Been Awhile, complete with melody to make even those claiming to hate the Massachusetts fourpiece subconsciously tap their foot to the catchy tune. To follow up to that hit, and indeed the 7x platinum album Break the Cycle, there s notable changes in both execution and songwriting. It s not as though Staind have undergone a makeover; the shaved heads, angry look and pain are all still present, but the title alone, 14 Shades of Grey, represents uncertainty between black and white, and there s a degree of hope which must be applauded in...

14 Shades of Grey was among the elite albums of 2003.

Pros:
Intricate, moving, and tremendously adept songwriting and musicianship from Staind.

Cons:
A couple of ordinary rockers. Not as widely heard or appreciated as it should be.

One of the most passionate bands in the current music scene, Staind has been lumped into the dreaded nu-metal music category, but their sound is significantly more mature and emotional than many of their counterparts. Staind evokes a wide range of emotions from the listener, in part from their brilliant and convincing lyrics, which are some of the industry's best. Staind's newest entry, "14 Shades of Grey", takes the classic nu-metal formula of hard hitting songs combined with slower, melodic tunes and ramps up both the quality of their already stellar lyrics and their intensity, to create an.

A Happy Aaron Lewis = A Very Disappointed Listener
Review created: 05/10/06

Pros:
Rare moments where Staind decided to show up: "Layne" and "Price to Play"

Cons:
Everything else, guitar is lacking, lyrics are poor, Lewis can't express feeling happy.

With the massive financial and critical success of their first two studio albums Dysfunction and Break they Cycle, Staind was on a roll only they could stop. How'd they get this far in the first place? Intense and catchy guitar riffs, packed with emotional, angry, and oft-depressing lyrics combined to create several songs that absolutely lambasted the radio airways in the late 90's and at the turn of the millennium. Now lets get into chief songwriter Aaron Lewis's head at the beginning of this album. He now knows what type of songs will be successful, probably not going to change that much....

14 Shades Of Grey Suits Its Name, But Adds A Few Flashes Of Color

Pros:
Aaron's voice, powerful choruses

Cons:
Homogenized rock, all of the tracks were a little too similar

Summary Staind's second album, 14 Shades Of Grey, has by far surpassed the success of their first commercially successful album, Break The Cycle. However, I think that while the average performance of Shades of Grey is better than the first album, Break The Cycle had several better songs than anything you will find on 14 Shades of Grey. Aaron Lewis' new found love for his daughter and usual deep lyrics shine through on this album, and while the band loses a little of its kickass attitude, I find that it's a tasteful adjustment. The rhythms and melodies are equally aesthetically pleasing and.

  The best for Staind!
Review created: 04/26/04

Pros:
Brilliant music and lyrics in most of the songs.

Cons:
Some songs get old

This is Stainds third effort, and I was "Blown Away" after listening to this. The sound in this album is certainly different than from Break the Cycle, it's not nearly as agresive and the guitar is not as heavy either. It opens up with "Price to Play" the first single put on the air from this album. The Chorus is surprisingly long, and flows very well. Although there isn't much to the song besides the three times they sing that long Chorus. It seems like they didn't spend enough time with the rest of the song. Second is "How About You" The third single if I'm not mistaken. Beautiful lyrics...
